I have a concern with the Administrator aspect of Temporary Internet Files as
they relate to IE6. Using Windows Explorer, I see that I have 3 paths that
contain the "temporary internet files" folder on my computer and I am the
only user. They are as follows:
1. Administrator
2. Administrator.ROBERTSHARON
3. Owner
However, in the Owner path to Local Settings, Temporary Internet Files
folder displays all cookies.
In the Administrator path to Local Settings, Temporary Internet Files folder
displays nothing.
In the Administrator.ROBERTSHARON path to Local Settings, Temporary Internet
Files folder now displays the "Content IE5" folder within which is the
"index.dat" file.
Which of these are accessed by Internet Explorer when attempting to delete
TIFs? I assume it is the Administrator.ROBERTSHARON path.
All attempts to delete TIFs from within Internet Explorer are futile.

"view hidden and system files", I tried deleting the Temporary Internet Files
folder and it was successful for the administrator user! However, after
restarting and looking through Windows Explorer at this user (myself), there
is no Temporary Internet Files folder displayed for hidden or system files.
I thought it would be recreated after restart.
So after a subsequent opening of Internet Explorer 6, I browsed to 3
websites and tried deleting TIFs again but still get the Error: Internet
Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close.
Also, I have not been able to identify aother program that may be causing
this problem yet.
Please advise.

It's possible that another program is causing this problem.
See if you can delete the Temporary Internet Files after starting up in Safe
Mode.
315222 - A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=315222
You could try closing other programs through task manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del.)
See if you can determine which is causing the problem.
Or you may have a corrupted TIF folder.
Try deleting the Temporary Internet Files folder for the affected user
account. A new folder will be created on restart. Login as another user with
administrator privileges, or from the machine's default administrator
account (startup in safe mode.) Make sure that you can see hidden and system
files (Folder Options> View) Then delete the affected TIF folder from
Windows Explorer. It will be at [C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files] Restart.
Also, it's often recommended that the TIF folder size be set to between
50-100 MB.
Hope this helps,
Don

Tools\Internet Options\Delete Files (Temporary Internet files), I get an
error message:
Error: Internet Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close.
After looking at "Windows Task Manager" I found IE not responding. So I
click on "End Task" and it shuts down IE. This happens every time I try
deleting Temporory Internet files now.
I am running Windows XP SP2 on an HP desktop. I also use MSN Explorer with
my Qwest ISP and have the same problem there.
Any suggestions?
