My Internet Explorer just sometimes stops working for
anything other than Secure sites (https://) As long as the
site has https, I can access it. I know I am still
connected to the internet because I can start and play
Online games just fine. I just can't seem to connect to
anything using http addressing. I cannot access Symantec
to do a LiveUpdate or McAfee either. I have to reboot the
computer and then it works just fine. I thought it had
something to do with XP Service Pack 2 but I uninstalled
it and still had this problem. I can't seem to replicate
the problem at will ... it just happens at odd times.

Using XP Home Edition with SP2 reinstalled. I have run
McAfee AntiSpyware as well as Spybot and Norton
Antivirus. Nothing is reported.

Hi Don.t :-)
I have the same problem. I doubt it has anything to do
with search. How can you download anything when the
browser doesn't work?

NOTE: If you can not download these programs from the Internet, if your PC
has CD read capabilities, go to another computer with CD-ROM burning
capabilities. Create a folder on the hard drive of the other computer called
HOLD, download the programs to that folder, then burn that folder to a CD.
Copy the HOLD folder to your HD and then install the programs from there
and run them. After you have IE access again, update all programs where
possible to get the latest definitions and run them again to be sure there
are no lingering items on the system.

If you are interested in some help, and these steps did not resolve your
problem, then please a open new post of your own stating all the facts or
your particular problem, which version of Windows you have, and the exact
wording of any error messages you are getting. Then perhaps we can offer
some helpful information that will resolve your problem

Thank you :-)

Hello again!

I tried doing this
xp.com/regs_edits/RestoreSearch2.REG to restore
your default Search functionality and reset your
prefixes.

But I am still having the intermittent problem with my
browser no longer working for anything other than https
sites. I can't make it happen at will or at least I
haven't yet discovered any certain thing that triggers
this action. I have to reboot the computer to get
browsing capability back. I am running XP Home with SP2
and IE6 with latest SP. I also run Adaware, Spybot Search
& Destroy, and McAfee Antispyware on a regular basis.
Other programs typically running include a Team Speak
server (http://www.teamspeak.org) and a game (City of
Heroes). I do have XP SP2 Firewall on and I use a Router
(Microsoft MN-700 Base Station).

Additionally, the Search from the Address bar still seems
to be nonfunctional. If I type something in the address
bar, it looks like it is trying but nothing happens other
than a blank page. For example, I typed in "falcons" in
the bar and this popped up in the address bar
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?
srch=106&FORM=AS6&q=falcons but all that displayed was a
white page.
