Lemme guess... you still believe in Santa Claus, right?

That person posted a lot of messages in these groups before adding
"MVP" to his sig. That's enough for me.

I own 7 of these USB enclosures with Notebook drives in them. Take a very
close look at your "I am wrong" statement at newegg.com. 9 out 10
enclosure
come with a seperate USB for power and data USB cables. You are wrong
Malke.
I will not disrespect anyone, unless they try to do it to me. (SNIP)

Charles:
Actually, based upon our experience with dozens of USB external enclosures
designed for laptop/notebook 2 1/2" HDDs, Malke is correct in that the
majority of these devices (unlike USB external enclosures designed for 3
1/2" HDDs) do *not* include an auxiliary power supply (adapter), but rather
rely on the power supplied by the USB bus provided by the laptop/notebook.
As you probably know, and as Malke indicates, many of these device are
equipped with a 2-headed (Y-type adapter) USB cable so that sufficient power
will (usually) be supplied through two USB ports on the laptop/notebook.

While some of these USB enclosures designed for 2 1/2" hard drives *do*
include an auxiliary power supply, many (if not the majority in our
experience) do not contain such. You are fortunate that (apparently) the
enclosures in your possession have an auxiliary PSU/adapter. We generally
advise customers in the market for these devices to (preferably) purchase
one that does have an auxiliary PS/adapter or at the minimum is equipped
with a dual-head (Y-adapter) type of USB cable since we have experienced
problems with those units that do not contain such since the laptop/notebook
frequently will not provide sufficient power for the device using a single
USB cable with no auxiliary power to the device.

Since you mentioned newegg, you might want to take a look at their extensive
offerings of USB external enclosures for 2 1/2" drives at...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010090092 1053807124&name=2.5"

While I haven't made a count, I'm sure a substantial number (if not a
majority) of these devices do not include auxiliary power adapters.

Anna, we are saying the same thing. I am talking about aftermarket
enclosures sold buy themselves. Retail USB drives with hard drive included
will usually only supply one USB cord for both power and data (example Mator
and Seagate). So take a closer look at NewEgg's line of USB enclosures
themselves and you will see that 9 out of 10 have under various brand names,
come with a power USB cable and seperate USB data cable. Make it a great day.

And the fact that a (possibly cheap) enclosure simply will not work with
a
particular computer is not uncommon.
