I wonder too, if another big impediment to getting away from IE are
all the "IE wrappers" being developed, like Maxthon, Avant, etc.?
Probably not a "big" impediemnt. Altough IE wrappers do capture some of
the users who would otherwise have switched to alternate browsers because
of features but in the end, the biggest reason to switch is security.
And using a IE shell doesn't improve that though some argue that making
it easier to turn off scripts, java helps.
I've also noticed that many of the IE wrapper crowd tends to be more
interested in features, bells and whistles rather than security anyway,
so they wouldn't be naturally attracted to alternative browsers anyway.
The IE wrapper market though hard to measure in size is probably very
small too. I get the impression that most people would have heard of
mozilla if not netscape, very very few would have heard of IE shells.
Still, some of these devoted IE shell users might bring along a few of
their less techy friends, so there is an effect, maybe a small one.
