I want to install Windows 2000 on a Windows ME machine...how do I do it ?

I'm a little lost right now, not quite sure what's going on.

How is your hard disk currently partitioned?

Do you have a blue screen at the moment with a set of options?

Those options should give you a choice of locations to format the disk and install Win 2K to.

Assuming the partition at the begining of the disk containing ME isn't too big (and thus making secondary partition too far away from the mbr) you should be able to format/install and the dual boot function set up automatically.

I have no idea, as I can't get to see it. I don't know where to find it at all.

I had a blue screen with options, but I checked all of them there and couldn't find anything relating to reformatting. It keeps asking for me to insert the cd for 98 or 95 to check what needs to be done. Having said that the CD for win 2k pro that I've got is an upgrade version. Would that make any difference ?

Yes. *sob*

I do wish you'd mentioned your Win 2K disc was an upgrade version in the first place.

You will not be able to have a dual boot from an upgrade disc.

All you can do is get ME how it was and then if you want to upgrade from ME to Win 2K insert Win 2K disc while you have ME running and follow instructions.

You'll then be able to upgrade from ME to 2K but not retain ME.

That is your only option unless you have a full version of Win 2K.

Boy, that was a critical piece of info you left out. With a full install of Win2k, you would have easily been able to create a dual boot setup in FAT32. I'm not too familiar with Win 2k but I think you may have a heck of a bad time upgrading your drivers. I may be wrong on this. One thing for sure is Win2k is much more stable than Me! About every six months or so, I'd have to do another install of Me simply because it got too 'funky' to deal with.
