* don't see a method of disabling "schedule boot time scan". Is
it possible?
<snip>

The "schedule boot time scan" menu entry of Avast is a kind of
Toggle :
1/ if no scan is planified and you enter this menu, you can define a
scan planification
2/ if a scan is already planified and you enter this menu, you are
asked if you want to cancel the current scan planification

Thanks--I just did the same and that addresses some of the problems I've
been encountering. Is this use of services not documented somewhere?!

Dan

No. But it might be good practice for you to check what new services are
installed, what startup registry keys are installed etc whenever you
install something new.

No. But it might be good practice for you to check what new services are
installed, what startup registry keys are installed etc whenever you
install something new.

Is there an efficient method to do this? For example, if I look at all
the services most are unfamiliar, and it is arduous to google each
unfamiliar service and figure out of it is needed, or newly added.
similar with startup registry keys....

Thanks!

No I don't think there is a shortcut method. Most services installed by
external programs are pretty obviously named. All you need to do *once*
is to visit sites like http://www.blackviper.com/WIN2K/servicecfg.htm ,
get familar with the default windows one and decide which ones to turn
off.

After that all the new ones set to auto will obviously be those just
added.
