Hello,

Here is the deal - I have been publishing to my web site for years, and I
just recently created a new site and now I can't publish to the original
site. I am certain I know what is happening, but need help resolving the
problem.

I am publishing in FP2003 on XP using FP extensions. I know this works,
because I tested it from a second machine here at home. Basically when I try
to publush it says:

Unable to open 'https://mywebsite'
Server error:
Possible causes:
1: The web server may not have the Frontpage server extensions installed
(more errors, 2: server may be down, 3: proxy server issue, etc)

So, what I did was try to use a "web folder" by Adding a network place and
it fails. However, I can do this on my second computer - no problem.

So, what I believe has happened is when I try to publish or map a website,
it has the wrong user name and password since it NEVER PROMPTS me for it.

Meanwhile I deleted my cookies, my cache, even went and deleted all the
passwords in autocomplete, and I still can't publish or map the website.

I am certain somewhere it was confused and is using the wrong user and
password for this resource, but I don't know how to remove it. I even went
and removed the SSL state and my cached credentials with my profile, but it
still won't connect.

Can anyone tell me how to get it so that it needs to prompt me for user/pass
again for this resource? This really isn't a Frontpage issue really, but
more an OS/Network issue. ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated!

THANKS!
DaveR

Does you host have the FP SE installed for SSL (https port 443)
If not use http and in the form http://www.yoursite.com/

This might be a typo on your part, but are you sure your web address is
https://? https: indicates a *secure* server connection such as those you'd
send Credit card details over - banks, paypal etc, whereever you need data
encryption.

Generally https: would not be used for "normal" site.

Has your host installed the FP extensions on the port 115 (or whatever the
secure port is). Regular http is port 80, secure https: use port 112 or 115
(or whichever).

Check with your host.

Clues are in the errors you're getting such as, "Server may not have server
extensions installed" etc.

Try publishing to http://www.yoursite.com (without the 's' on the end of the
http)

If you tried it on a test machine (assuming to http://localhost - not this
is *not* a secure server).

i am having the same problem i can not publish my site it keeps asking for id
and pass word over and over again i would like to find out how to either
change the id and pass word or get rid of it all to gether so i can publish

Thanks Stefan and Andrew for the ideas. It is actually https://, and it was
working fine until recently. Like I indicated, I can map this web folder
from a different computer at home, but I can't from this machine. On this
machine it won't ask for a user/pass, where the other it does. What I
believe is happening, and to many people with publishing problems, is that FP
gets the wrong credentials for the web resource and you can't "clear them
out"...it just keeps trying the same ones over and over and never prompts for
user/pass.

I am still open for ideas, and just so people know the website is:
http://erinrosenthal.org - A simple site I created to give people a chance to
help her cope with her recently discovered Leukemia. The publishing for the
site is: https://erinrosenthal.org, per the instructions from my web
provider (insight), but it just doesn't work (I believe it was confused with
another user/pass I entered when managing a different site).

Anyway, again - thanks for the help - any more ideas? Lastly, I am quickly
getting to the point where I will spend the $35 from Microsoft to resolve
this...but I must say this is really bumming me!

Thanks,
DaveR

According it http://erinrosenthal.org/_vti_inf.html the FP SE are at http
- have you tried it
