What do you think of your current ISP - are they as good as you'd like?

I'm currently with Demon Internet, and I've been extremely pleased so far :thumb: I'll have a look around for new deals after the year is up, but I'm in no rush to switch.

I'm with Zen.

The Sunday Times voted them UK's Best Broadband Service in February 2007.

Their take on my ISP:

Zen

Rated 18/20

www.zen.co.uk — from £18pm for 8Mbps broadband with 2GB cap, to £35pm with 50GB cap

Unsurpassed service and reliability

Zen keeps it simple by offering a no-frills service that is perfect for web aficionados and small businesses. It offers an internet connection only and can’t compete with big-brand phone and entertainment packages, but with a call centre staffed with technical experts and great network investment, Zen has been the choice of the cognoscenti for three years. The fact that it has short (one-month) contracts confirms confidence in its service, while a promised one-hour response time for faults is impressive.

Mostly in this world, you get what you pay for.

I voted excellent for my isp (Be)

I havnt been a customer of them for a while now but they have been excellent and I am getting very good speeds no problems at all :thumb:

I'm with virgin net/media.
Told i would get up to 8MB, but never got that mostly i get is 4MB on a good day, on average 3MB!
My local BT exchange is the problem until they upgrade it slow speeds will stay!!

We've been with Clara.net for about 5 years, and have always found their service to be excellent (even on dial-up) They are also very helpful. I have only had to telephone them on one occasion when there was a connection problem, and was assisted by an extremely helpful technician. :thumb: :thumb:

I'm with Vivaciti, An Entanet reseller.

I pay £20 a month for a month by month contract. Up to 8mb, 30gb peak, 300gb off peak. 100 email address', 25mb of webspace. (I dont actually use the email or web space though)

Fantastic friendly customer support, via email or phone and no waiting in a queue!

Good speeds, no down time in the time i have been with them. Best of all no throttling or shaping.

Rated 3rd here

I'm happy.....until i find something better. :D

Been with Tiscali interweb for... 2 years now. Not really that good, we've been told we get 2MB for £14.99pm. D/L speeds are rarely over 100kb/ps.

Time to upgrade, maybe to sky since we already have a sky subscription thing going on... unless there is another isp that it phonomenal. :)

*Depending on line length and quality. You're probably too far from the exchange to receive the full speeds murdoch. ;)

Whats your line attenuation?

Good checker here explaining the services and speeds available in your area. :thumb:

Cable Virgin/media Network

2mb connection and I get 2mb connection so no gripes over the speed...

Since Virgin took over NTL about 4 months ago customer service has improved a great deal, you still have to wait on the line sometimes until you get an operator to speak to, but now when you have a problem they listen and act..Whereas before when it was NTL they couldn't be arsed to even listen most of the time..

So I think old Branston brain has shook the old firm up a bit and sacked a few middle managers sitting on there arses all day doing nothing, theres much more of an urgency going on there now...Which can only be a good thing..

Theres talk of the network getting another upgrade and people on 10mb connections will go to 20mb people on 4mb going to 8mb and 2mb going to 4mb all at no charge again like they did last year....Looking forward to that..

I voted Average in the poll and will be keeping a close eye on things at Vigin to see if things improve further...One thing I will say is my 2mb connection is completely uncapped and always has been, I'm not sure I could put up with a capped service..

I'm another Zen user who voted excellent.

Had to go to ADSL when I moved away from my Telewest cable area, and they have been fantastic from the moment I first spoke to them to now :thumb:

Sky

the cheapest
I could find. £5 a month!!!!

Never had any problems so far.
excellent

A moment to reflect on Bulldog.

POOR SERVICES
OVERPRICED
RIP PEOPLE OFF
TAKE MONEY FROM CUSTOMERS
TOTAL SHAMBLES.

Stay away from Bulldog.

I voted terrible.

I'm on <del>NTL</del> Virgin Media.

Different name, same crummy two-bit service.

I'm only getting half the 4mb I'm paying for and they couldn't give a flying turd. When you ring them up nobody has any idea what they are talking about and they waste your time by talking out their arses as long as possible.

Half arsed morons.

But apart from that they are great :thumb::thumb: :p

yeah they are expensive

and as i said earlier the upload speeds are capped to stop people running ftps and servers and alike.

10mb service should allow ideally 1.2 up give or take a couple hundred k
they only allow 60k up very naughty

AOL customer for 4 years . Only paying £9.99 a month for a 512kb line which would be a 2MB line but I live too far away from the exchange , they gave a free upgrade to the 2 mb line . Free McAfee firewall aswell . They are pretty good and no worries about download limits .

As it happens, I gotta say, despite all the slagging off they get, AOL really aren't too bad.

I was with them for about 6 or 7 years on dial up, thery were very good indeed.

How they fare under their new owners is something we'll have to wait and find out though I guess.

Both my Mum and my sister have their broadband service and they're happy with it.
Neither, of course, makes use of p2p or plays online games ;)

One last comment - the reason I stuck with AOL on dialup back then was that they were the ONLY ISP who'd not cut you off after a certain time, which was usually two hours.

Which meant I could download Windows XP SP1 on dialup. It actually took 13 hours, but I got it :)

Only real bad thing about AOL is it's own browser but you can alway log in, minimise then use browser of choice.

And no, I ain't gone senile, just telling it like it was ;)

And Mucks - you sure about BT? 7th from bottom on that site above, and if you read the comments - nothing but complaints. I am liking the look of Vivaciti (or whatever they're called ;) ) but I'll probably stick with Zen, I'm comfortable with them after five years of superb service :)

Right, it's 1.30am, I'm somewhat inebriated, no work tomorrow, what shall I do?

Oh, I know - CoD2 online :D

Yes.

Either that or roll to bed.....

Floppy, I can only really comment on BT through my own experience as you have with AOHell, err, sorry ;) AOL

Like you I too have relatives using BT ... muggins here had to set-em-up, but it is really simple, and so it should be.

BT recommend using Ethernet, you know my feelings on any ISP who still use USB, fact 1, BT have a sticker masking the USB socket.

I had no trouble setting-up my 'kit' or my brothers ... my Sister was a slightly different story. I had a spot of bother sending/receiving emails ... one phone call (0845 #) later and all was fixed. Yes, the 'gentleman' was of Indian decent, but I don't have a problem with who the hell I'm talking to and from where they are in the World, if they know there business. This guy was tip-top. :thumb:

We can say here, most of us are well versed in PC tech ... but I can also see, using my Sister as an example, why other people complain ... my sister can read, and despite the CD holding your hand every step of the way to set-up your equipment, she just gave up. She is nearlly 60 :p

I'll expand on that ... BT give you 2 'filters' that you can use if needed, she used both on the same line ... one upstairs by the PC and one downstairs on the main BT socket ... it don't work like that. :D She was going to use both the Ethernet & USB cable supplied, 'cos she is a woman and there should not be any bit-n-bobs left over, they is very logical like that, woman. ;)

Anyway ... I have had no 'problems' and I 'bought' the best deal at the time I moved in ... you may also remember I have a free mobile phone off them too. :thumb:

Innit nice to hear good things about so called bad companies. :D
