If you want to blame someone, blame the authors of Beginning Microsoft
Visual C# 2008. Wiley Publishing, Inc. Any term used in a book that fat ought
to be standard terminology. Here are similar ones:
VS
VBE
VB
VBA

VS, VB and VBA are relative widely used abbreviations.

VCE and VBE are not.

VBE is widely used when talking about doing VBA work in the Visual Basic
Editor (VBE) in Office applications. It's often found in articles and books
on VBA.

That probably proves the point right there. VBE more than likely in this
case was meant to stand for VB Express, like the VCE for VC# Express. (And
on a side note, who in the world outside of Microsoft actually calls it
VISUAL C#? 99.99999% of us just say C#.)

The object of asking a question in a newsgroup is to get an answer. It
behooves the poster to make the question as clear as possible. Nebulous
abbreviations, failure to post code samples, etc., do nothing but hinder the
chances of getting the desired result.

Perhaps, but as I said earlier, if you are a newbie, you don't know what is
and what isn't "nebulous abbreiviations". The OP stated that this term was
gotten from a book.

As more experience people trying to help, we should recognize that and just
be helpful.

I agree...partially. Telling people what not to do is also helpful. Replying
to a post with a less-than-desirable amount of detail by filling in the gaps
in our own heads instead of requesting more detail does not help the poster
make better posts in the future. Some people like to give a man a fish, and
some people like to teach a man to fish. I fall into the latter group. To
the folks who only come here and just want an answer now now NOW, I come off
looking like a pompous ass. I don't care.

I think my point here is that the acronym used by the OP (VCE) is not
something he made up and, despite your unfamiliarity with it, it is an
acronym that some people use. As for wannabe geek saying that VBE is
something that is not used, I just pointed out that that is also incorrect,
as it is used to mean Visual Basic Editor.

You really can't blame the OP for the mess of acronyms that are out there.
He didn't make them up, he's just using what he's learned. It's our job as
more experienced helpers/peers to stay on topic and be helpful. Given the
context of the group and question, I think (IMHO) that the usage of VCE was
obvious, but more than that, it was also irrelevant to the question being
asked. To come back and beat the poor guy over something irrelevant, yet
still accurate doesn't seem to serve any purpose.

Precisely. Thanks to Arne and Jeff, this thread is a just bunch of guys
crawling all over each other and being stupid. The question could have been
answered with one post. Instead they made it 22, most of which are
irrelevant, way off topic posts. Even as a newbie, I know that is not the
purpose of this newsgroup.

Correction: As for Arne saying that VBE is something that is not used, ...
