i don't remember asking your personal opinion regarding my competences.
flamers are loosers, therefore i will refrain to tell you what i think of
your attitude here.

being a microsoft developer (for many years), i know very well that the
microsoft newsgroups are monitored by microsoft employees and by microsoft
MVP. i have reported many issues, mostly related to mobile devices, that
ended being logged by MSFT.

if you are not interested by the issue being discussed in this thread, just
don't read the postings.

Flamers are "loosers"? I think a good definition of a
loser is someone who can't spell "loser" but calls someone
else one. And with your impressive amount of experience,
you still don't know what a bug is, and you apparently
aren't aware that there are standard channels for
submission of bug reports. I'm very impressed. Please
just sit there and wait for someone from MS to log this
one.

i am perfectly aware of that, but i was hoping someone would give me a good
advice to solve this issue.

actually setting the paging file to "system managed size" took care of it.

well apparently many people don't know that this is the solution to this
problem, and for some reason, the default paging file settings of XP are
probably not large enough. so even though there is no bug there, MSFT could
make it easier for people to find the solution when they have this problem
(if you go to msdn and look for "increase maximum number of windows", you
find nothing appropriate), and maybe default settings could be improved.

thanks to all the other people who helped.
