how is Mwave.com for service and reliability?

These are component purchases, not a 'complete computer' purchase. When
you purchase your choice of MB, processor and memory, for a mere $9,
MWave will assemble these components, configure the processor switches
and will boot them to make sure there are no problems. This is a simple
task but it lessens the chance of a return due to incompatibility issues,
defective processor, MB, memory, etc, etc. It is not imperative to
purchase this test but when you spend hundreds of dollars for components,
spending $9 to make sure that they are compatible and are not defective,
is not a big deal.

Perhaps it is time to put this thread to bed. :)

If they do that then I guess it not a bad price. :)

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say it should be illegal. But they only
charge $9 for the test. That makes me wonder. If the "test" is done
properly, it should take several hours minimum. Also, if someone is truly
qualified (through education and experience) to professionally test new
computer components, they should be earning a MINIMUM of $30 to $40 per hour
(probably higher). So if you've got someone earning at least $30 per hour
working for several hours, and the vendor is charging you $9 for that
service, something doesn't add up there. Granted, probably one person can
multi-task and test several computers at once. It still doesn't come CLOSE
to adding up mathematically, though. -Dave

What Mwave does is assemble the components and check that the combo POST's
properly. There is no thorough testing, but what would one expect for $9?

I agree, I don't need the testing and certainly wouldn't pay extra for it.

But if I was buying a complete assembled system, (which I won't) I would
expect it to work upon being plugged in. Wouldn't you?

Definitely!!! :) -Dave

I too can give MWave two thumbs up. I've ordered a fair amount from
them, and always had good results. A brief story - the first time I
ordered from them, I bought all the pieces and parts to put together a
pc. Got 2nd day shipping, Friday arrival. The order went out promptly,
email notification, ups tracking numbers, two boxes. Being anal
retentive and anxious for my toys, I followed the ups tracking, and
watched in dismay as one box _obviously_ was misrouted. Sure enough,
on Friday the ups truck pulled up and delivered one box. It contained
the case. Just the case. The other misrouted box contained the mobo,
processor, memory, hd, etc, etc. It came Monday, but all weekend long
I stared longingly at my empty case. Sure, it had a power supply...

As for newegg, I've had good results with them, too. I had to return a
mobo, and promptly got another in exchange.
