It is when the machine is a family computer.

I fail to see how downloading a couple of Zip files and unarchiving them
to the F-Prot install dir is a "hassle".

Sometimes I don't touch the machine for days. It just sits there, quietly doing scheduled up/down-loads.
My wife comes along to search for stuff on the internet or to read her email. For her, the computer is an appliance.
My daughter gets to play on it once in a while. For her, the computer is a game.

Updates should be automatic.
Plus, F-Prot/DOS does not have any resident protection, which is not good for the situation I described above.
I do have it as a backup manual scanner.

That comment is just scary.
