That's a cool trick!
You can also use the format painter to apply the highlight (and font
format) to other text once you have it in PPT, or to remove it by
selecting text without the highlight.
Here's a 3-minute video showing how to do those 3 things (that is, apply yellow background formatting from Word, copy it within PPT, and remove it when no longer needed):
