How can I deactivate scanning for viruses?

I deactivated autoprotect function of Norton 2004 but when I
run Word or
Excel (not Access) every time I open a file I get "Scanning
for viruses...".
Why so? How can I avoid scanning every opened file?

Turn the option off in NAV2004

Open NAV

Click on Options

Click on Miscellaneous

Untick the Plug in for office
