hosting from home

In addition to Joe's response and reviewing your first question...you don't
need a second machine, you install IIS and FP extensions on your existing
machine...XP Pro or Windows 2000 (I forget what sp you need for 2000)...but
you can't use IIS on XP Home.

Then you can publish against localhost and test your web.
If you don't install IIS then you can still use FP to design webs but you
will then be using what's called disk-based webs (can't test db stuff etc
against a diskbased web).

|I surrender!!!!!!!!! Looks like I won't get a clear answer! Sorry!!

FYI: If you are going to self host then it would be best to have a dedicated machine, so that out
can protect your personal data as well as allowing the server to used the full processing power for
dealing with web request and not have to be split resources with a local user.

Ok, but you will need to be able to access via an IP address, not a drive letter/UNC path

Joe,

That is the help I needed! I have it done, it published without any
problems! Now, my question is, what ways can I logon from a remote machine
on my network? Browse to the drive where I have it installed or is there a
way to logon some other way, like START/RUN and type in a location?

Thanks again!

we're confusing my op with JE's question.
I've talked my client out of self hosting...didn't take much.

I would discourage self-hosting, unless he wants to go all the way, set up
his own T1, Windows 2003 Domain, all that. It's expensive, and it still
requires a certain amount of expertise, but there are reasons for having
that level of expertise and security on a WWW web server.

You can lead a fish to a bicycle,
but it takes a very long time,
and the bicycle has to *want* to change.

Nah...he was one of those wise-ass nummies. I knew he'd never really
actually in real life want to learn anything involved in doing it the right
way...or lay out the dough either.
