I know, i said the were too hot too expensive, too loud etc. But they are a little cheaper and i can still get good money for the 5870....

What am i like.... lol

Watch this space.

From £360.00 to £650.00

Which one?

I would never spend that much loot on a grafix card, I've never actually owned a current top of the range card, but that's just me.

What do the tea-leaves say? lemme take a look...

November 21st, 2010: Nvida today announced it's new range of video cards which as well as surpassing the performance of all current ATI graphics cards, no longer suffers from the heat and noise problems prevalent in the 400 series.

Nvidia assured customers that prices for the new range, codenamed 'Talitha' would be very competitive.

You know I speak truth...

That really puts my 8800 to shame ;)

Which one are you looking at so far? I didn't realise there was such a difference in price until I saw the link from flops .

PMSL been there, they even had a port to extend the memory capabilities if you could afford the extortionate price of video ram then

I got the Nvidia 470 GTX. Quite a fast card - plays everything I could want it too.
Unfortunately Cryostasis with PhysX activated really kills the card.

And yes they are LOUD and HOT. But the heat doesn't seem to affect performance.

Use MSI Afterburner with a fan profile to help with the heat and volume. ;)

Well, i got one delivered today. But camera's battery is dead.... lol

Got the MSI Version

Will update with a few pics soon. :)

First impressions...

- The noise is over exaggerated, @ 50% fan speed it is quieter than the ATI 5870 @ 50%. The 5870 idles @21% the 480 @44% (generally) But both are silent at idle IMO.

- Heat seems a little over exaggerated aswell, Its not as hot as i was expeecting. It does idle at about 5-10c more than the ATI 5870, (on average) and does get a little hotter than it at load. But MSI afterburner and a custom fan profile sorts that out to a better set of values than it does at stock.

- Going of from what i said above, it seems the NV drivers dont ramp up the fan speed fast enough as the temp rises, but again Afterburner sorts that. (I used MSI AB with the 5870 also if you wondered)

Haven't tried any games yet, that is just what i am going to do now. I've leave you with these comparison screens. :)

Jealous? Me? Just a little :D

That's good news on the noise front. As long as it's silent on idle that's the main thing - as you won't notice the fan when gaming anyway. :)

Enjoy those games

Exactly, As i game under headphones the noise while im playing is a moot point IMO. Though it is louder at load than the ATi 5870 is, but its also a fair bit more powerful. :)

Just ran the Heaven Benchmark and this is what it got...

(The CPU is at 4Ghz even though it only says 3.8 in the benchmark... This is the same settings that i ran it on with the 5870, but i cant find the results from that, Though i can tell you it is quite a bit better)

- Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
- Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel Memory
- MSI GeForce GTX 480 1536MB GDDR5 (waiting to be OC'ed)
- Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music Sound Card
- Crucial M225 128GB Solid State Drive

lol nice and clean in there my friend. You get the soft brush and vacuum out before takin pics? ;)

I actually thought you were only THINKING about buying one. Last time i saw this thread it was just window shopping PMSL

You notice a major difference in game play then?

Nah my PC is always clean. A dust filter on the intake stops a lot of dust getting in in the first place. :)

Yeah gaming is very good, playing BC2 with 32x CSAA at 1920x1200 all maxed out and it didn't drop below 70 fps.

Metro 2033 still runs like **** though, Have decided i dont like it anyway, the mouse movement feels horrid tbh. and it broke my mouse drivers after playing it...! ....

Been playing a few other games and its been great, managed to get it to hit 90c but the 5870 would hit 85 so the temp thing is a moot point. But just use MSI Afterburner witha custom fan profile to get it to spin up faster earlier and it'll sit @80 quite happily. :)

Gonna OC it later in the week to see what i can get out of it..... Am aiming for 850ish on the core. By all accounts the 480's scale well when you OC them. One thing the 5870's didn't do well...

Superb machine you have now V_R.

I'm not in a financial positioon to upgrade atm which to my mind may be just as well cos I'm patient ;)

And besides, all my games play well. Not maxed out I'll grant you but well enough for me for the money.

I'm glad you said that about Metro 2033, imo bigest pile of crap ever, complete waste of thirty quid

As I said before, feels like you're wandering around at dusk blindfolded with a control system sunk in a tub of molasses. The fact it dropped from £35 to £15 within 4 weeks of release says it all. And you can't even sell it on cos of online registration.

This makes me wary of new releases, this time I'm serious - I am never ever going to buy a new release again until it's been thoroughly tested in the field.

After all, I can always play Return To Castle Wolfenstein and Quake if I feel like a rush ;)

I must admit I'm amused to see somebody who praised the 5870 so much now start to diss it just because he has the Nvidia heat/noise machine instead at a little under 400 quid ;)

Whatever, enjoy :D

Ha, yep i know what you mean, I did feel a little 'dirty' after the stick i gave the 480 at release! But i'm man enough to admit i may have over exaggerated a little! :D

My issue with it originally was the launch price of £450 was way too much. now its down to £350 makes it a far more viable option to the 5870 as its only £50 more rather than £150. :)

Yes its is hotter and a little ouder but i guess that is the price you pay. As it is more powerful.

Dont get me wrong, the 5870 is an awesome card, but for only another 50 quid this is a better option. I didn't mean to sound like i was dissing the 5870, that was not my intention, but to be blunt the ATI drivers at the moment are not good, even worse if your running a crossfire system....

Something that ATI need to sort out rather quick if you ask me.

ATI, write drivers ... my god, I'll be dead then

This is how ATI write drivers ... they may one day, when hell freezes over, actually find a "programmer" who can drive a bus through the eye of a needle.
