Hidden Contacts

Although the contacts are available to view in
Outlook and most are, some cannot be veiwed unless you know which one is not
on the visible list and unless you go put into "search all contact items"
and
then it becomes visible.

In what folder does the search say they're in?

Now I finally know what your are referring to when you ask about folders. I
did not know they could be created, how and when I managed to create them. I
have an idea of how they were created. I have reason to believe it was by an
app in my iphone.

How do I move the contacts from the these folders into the full contact
folders list and delete the unwanted folders?

Open the source folder, select all the items by pressing Ctrl-A, then drag the
selection to the destination folder. You want Outlook's default Contacts
folder to be the destination folder.

Thanks for your help.

FYI I confirmed my suspicion. It is an iphone app that does this. I an
going to let them know

i am confused - it clearly states in the properties of this "address list or
whatever you call it" - there is a tab for Outlook Address Book and the
check
box says treat this folder as an OUtlook Address Book - how can you not know
this term? i can't describe it any better than that

You are examining the properties of a Contacts folder, then.
i open outlook, then go to my contacts. in contacts, i go file, new, folder,
name it and it appears in the list. I change the properties of the folder so
that it is treated as an Outlook Address Book. I add contacts to it. All is
well for a long time. Now, I browse to that folder, and the contacts within
it are gone. can you help figure out where they went? Using Outlook 2003 on
an Exchange/Windows SErver 2003 platform.

Do you sync with a handheld device at all?

What is there to understand. Although the contacts are available to view in

For the record, there are multiple causes for this behavior. To figure out
the solution one would have to know:
1. Which Search method is being employed (there are several).
2. All recent actions taken on the Contact in question or on the data store
in which it resides.
3. In which view the Contact is not appearing that the end user thinks it
should ("contact list" is not a view and that term has no meaning, hence the
need for clarification).

Without that information, a solution cannot be proposed from the distance of
a newsgroup. When an end user has all that information, as you did, the
solution is simple indeed. Well done.

Hidden Contacts
I realized recently that some of my contacts are missing. I have tried all
types of views with the same results. I can do a search and find them. I
did
delete one of such contacts and reneneted it and now it shows in the list.

The synced list in my iphone is correct - all contacts properly shown

at least explain what you mean by them so we can figure out what your

In your case we would need to know in what view you are seeing "several

The problem that most people face in this regard is in the address book
view
of Outlook, which may contain several outdated references to Contacts
Folder
that are no longer valid. Is that what your problem is?
If so, you would remove invalid references to Contacts Folders from the
address book view here: Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing
directories or address books > Outlook Address Book > Change??? >
If your problem is something else, then state more clearly what it is.
Keep
in mind that there is no separate address book in Outlook, only an address
book view of your Contacts Folders.

Some general things you can try until we can understand your issue better:
since there is no such thing as "hidden contacts" in Outlook, it is more
likely that you have contacts in more places than you realize, especially
since you synch with an iPhone. Use Folder List view to get a complete
view
of your folder hierarchy and see if Contacts are in more than one place.
Also, make sure you are not confusing what you see in your autocompletion
cache with Contacts--they are not the same.

I experienced the same problem on a contact I had entered manually just yesterday. Contacts show up on a search, but are not listed in the contacts folder. That is because they are not in the contacts folder. Thanks to prior posts in this thread, but no thanks to Russ, I found that the search will bring up contact records in any folder (even the deleted items folder), not just the contacts folder. Change the view to "list" on the search results. The last column on the right should display the folder location. To fix the problem when the folder is not "Contacts", open up the folder and move the contact records to the contacts folder.

From the first post, I don't understand the confusion. The information provided was more than adequate. Anyone who had a problem understanding or finds it necessary to be so Picayune about correct terminology should find someone else to respond to these questions.
