help: some popups I want close in about 1 second

Now the Intel site works, but this:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/mcintosh/census/1840/0081a.gif

causes IE to close completely.

I suspect that is an unrelated but similar symptom?
Or could the common factor be that the popups you want
contain large graphic images too? (The Intel example
seems to be just a Flash presentation which would be
something completely different.)

E.g. does the symptom change if you toggle off
Show Pictures
(Options, Advanced, Multimedia section)
and just get the image placeholders?

Another option in that dialog could be a factor too:
Enable Automatic Image Resizing
try toggling that off, e.g. before trying to right-click Show Picture
on one of the affected images.

Sunbelt CounterSpy. I removed CounterSpy, rebooted and it seems to be
OK.

A few days later I reinstalled CounterSpy, and the problem has not
reappeared. So I'm not sure that Counterspy was the problem. but the
problem is gone now, what ever it was, and I cleaned out some junk in
the process.
