Sorry , it was my typing error
the exact msg that i got when i try to import , for example , the file
Ser-24.XLS is the following

The wizard was unable to access the information in the file
'C:\txtfiles\Ser-24.XLS'.Please check that the file exists and is in the
correct format.

the steps are
File,Get external data,import..and i will choose the file.

mhmaid,

I just tried this and oddly enough, saving the file as tab delimited with a
..xls extension brought about the same message (and was not easy as that was
not the default extension for Excel 2003). When I save the file tab
delimited, I get a .txt extension (The ONLY choice I get) and all is well
for the import. So I wonder can you save your tab delimited file as .txt?
or is this not possible?

the same name , but dif extension is created) (notepad) ,

suppose that its not possible to import the data under the current format.is
there a code or a way to change the extension of all files in one folder from
..XLS to .txt

if there is a way , it means my problem could be solved .
