actually, i've been having back problems (the kind where you wince in
pain when you do the wrong thing) for approximately 6 months now...

Hah! That's nothing. I did too when I was only 30. Imagine having
pains like that in every joint of your body and you may begin to grasp
why old people don't behave like kids.

What, no Jack Daniels? Actually, walking (properly) is a excellent
exercise though swimming is even better.

oh, i don't know.... i think old people can behave very much like
children - and not necessarily in the good way...

but frankly, i think we all know that (most) people stop acting like
kids long before they have joint pains to use as an excuse...

i can attest to the fact that shoveling snow with a bad back is no fun,
but there's plenty of other things to still like about snow (not the
least of which being it's aesthetic appeal)...

not as yet, no... after 6 months you'd think i would have thought of
that, wouldn't you...

actually, what i really ought to do is see a doctor...

well personally i'm partial to running and jumping... unfortunately
those were some of the first options to go... i get around 30-40 minutes
of walking each weekday going to and from the bus stop, though...

I'm one of those nuts who actually enjoys shoveling snow. I love the
exercise and fresh air. And the beauty of it. But sometimes, like now,
it aggravates my old back problem. Then it's Bah! Humbug! time :)

Better yet, see a chiropractor. I speak from 50 years of using good ones.
I had scoliosis as a teenager. The trick is to find a "good one" and I do
have an excellent one here.

Heating pads will do wonders. Or one of those magic bags. Hot showers,
etc. But *snapping* it back into alignment should cure you. Unless it is a
damaged disc.....then see the chiro first, and follow his advice. Doctors
just tell you to take muscle relaxants and pain killers....and stay in bed
for weeks.

Oops....guess I let it out that I am almost as old as Art...lol.

Cheers....Heather

Yeah, I'll second that one.

"Normal" radiologists shoot back x-rays with people stretched out flat
on a table. Great for detail on bone, but that's the way you want to lay
to relieve pain from a slipped or bad disk because it puts the spine
back in alignment. That means a slipped disk is a lot less likely to
show up.

Go to a chiropractor first for back problems.

I still, after 30 plus years, miss the snowfalls of my youth in
Ontario and Quebec. Out here in the southern sunny Okanagan, we're as
likely to have rain the day after it snows. The weather forecaster has
predicted rain for next week, which will remove all 2 inches of snow
that have been here for a couple of weeks now.

Are you speaking from experience or did your Chiro tell you that? I
can tell you from experience that laying flat on my back was the last
thing I wanted to be doing with a damaged disk. 10 minutes being
xrayed was painful, 45 minutes in a MRI machine was nearly unbearable.

For me it was on my side in kind of a "Captain Morgan" pose. Hmm,
come to think of it it's pretty good medicine too. :))

I guess it did not work for you, then. My experience, my mother's, and
two friends. All four had problems that would not show up on normal
x-rays, and did on a chiropractor's x-rays, shot sitting or standing in
the painful posture.

They do have that stupid twit crap about "energy flows", but that seems
to be vanishing.
