Help Me With This Virus Please - W32.Alcra.B

There's this virus that keeps getting on my computer (or never quite
leaves). Norton AV doesn't block it or seem to find it on it's own,
but whenever I run the combination of Spybot & Ad-Aware, Norton AV
seems to wake up and say, "Hey, what's this? get the hell out of
here!", as I get this message:

Confession time: There's a program that I very much want to buy, but
can't afford until after Christmas. I'm using a version I found in a
dark alley on the internet, could this be bringing my pal W32.Alcra.B
back to my computer everytime the app is opened.

I'd rather not say the name, for fear of corporate reprisal.

And here's Symantec's description:

From that you can easily find out whether or not Alcra is actually
infesting your PC by looking for the files and registry entries given.

I doubt your PC is actually infested with it. What is the Long file
name of the BENGRI~1 folder? It doesn't look familiar to me. Can
you actually find the Setup.exe file in the path shown? If so, you
can upload it for scanning by other av scanners here:

http://www.virustotal.com

I suspect NAV is producing a false alert. Another thing you can do
is to run the KASFX download from my web site to see if the
Kaspersky scan engine finds anything amiss.

be his username that he logs in with, Apparently his real name. LoL.

Well, since I use Win 2k now I should have thought of that. But I
didn't. Hey, I trust that you have turned over a new leaf and I hope
you fair well with BugHunter and whatever other legit endeavors you
plan to undertake. So please never accuse me of having any kind of
malicious or criminal intent since I don't plan on doing that to you.
To me, it's not amusing at all.

To the OP ... it was a mistake on my part to ask for that folder name.
Do not post it or make it public in any way.

I did intend to post that you do not use XP and I wasn't sure if you would
know that it creates that folder. But I wasn't quite sure what you were
using now that Peg had your WinME.

As you and I were one of a very few holdouts for a long time with WinME, it
wouldn't have crossed Dustin's mind that you weren't using XP. And he seems
to be doing an excellent job with his program, considering all the flak that
hit ACV from those demented fools who don't seem to have a real life.

I am 100% sure that when Dustin reads that, you will hear from him. I truly
think he has turned over a new leaf. (I sure can't get used to
*Dustin*...but *Raid* is no longer who he is.)

And a merry Ho Ho Ho to you :) We've been hit here first with some
snow and now freezing rain on top. Peg and I are hoping our electric
power (and heat) stays on. It often fails out here in the boonies in
this kind of weather. I've been going around mumbling Bah! Humbug!
all day long :) My back aches from shoveling snow here last week.
And I'm pissed that I can't go out and do my usual 3 mile walk. So
Bah! Humbug! Peg and I are ready for spring already :)

LOL!! And we are now getting what hit you. Major snowstorm for 24 hours.
I just put the garbage out and it is up to about 4 inches or so since
suppertime. I have had to hire one of the neighbourhood kids to shovel coz
Ron can't do that anymore.....I do the 'guy jobs'. 8-(( But snow
shovelling and my back don't agree either.

Ron was just bitching about "where is Summer" tonight, and I am trying to
talk him into heading down to Cuba for a week...not having much luck. So
we will just have to put up with it for about 4 more months...sheesh!!

Hmmm, I do have a genealogy friend in Costa Rica....maybe I will go visit
her for a week, lol. Now, that's a plan!!

Hope Santa brings you a lighter shovel!!

and to think, i was out there rolling snow into big balls, trying to
test out the so-called 'snowball effect', and even considered making
snow angels...

so there's some magical age at which snow all of a sudden stops being fun?

if all you do with it is shovel it, i can see that getting old real
fast... maybe that's the problem...
