Having Trouble With My HP 4V Printer

I am curious.

I have read that desk jets should never be powered off except by the
switch on the printer itself. I wonder if this is true of lasers?

I just bought a Konica/Minolta B/W 1350W laser printer and find it has
no power switch on the printer itself. Ergo, powering it off and on
has to be done at the power source. Is this okay?

Thanks

On my old hp 5mp, I would power on/off via the switch on the printer
mainly because it is used by both a desktop & laptop & is connected
to the printer port of the router.

Just bought a Brother 5250DN yestarday & connected it to the router
as a network printer. The 5250DN does have a power switch, but it
also has an auto-sleep mode which may be used instead of a real off
mode. Considering that, I am just leaving the printer in the "on"
mode so that most of the time the printer is in "sleep" mode like
the cable box, tv, stereo as they don't have a real "off" switch
either.

For those preferring to do a real switch off, I wonder if they also
turn off or unplug their cable box, cable/dsl modem, router/hub/switch,
unplug their night light, or anything that can be turned "on/off" with
a remote. I do see some going overboard in "saving energy" by not
turning on the directional signals in the vehicles prior to changing
lanes or making turns....

Well then - should a laser printer left continually on, or is okay to
power it off when not in use? May sound like a dumb question, but I
wonder if powering it on and off would cause any anomalies?

My laser printer automatically powers itself off after a few minutes
of inactivity.

DO NOT BOTHER.

It's true for inkjets because the head needs to be
capped (go to the parking station) to prevent ink
drying in the head. Lasers don't have that
problem and work entirely differently, so you can
turn them off at any time (but wait until they
finish printing).

Lots of laser printers (and some inkjets) don't
have a real power switch, the computer sends a
signal to wake up at the beginning of a print job.
While plugged in, they are never truly off, but
use upwards of 2-3 watts to power a receiver so
they can receive a signal to fully power up for a
print job. Occasionally pulling the plug to
really turn the printer off may be valuable is
getting rid of signal errors.

I am interested in this printer and would be curious to know your first
impressions/experience. Thanks.
