Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB

The drivers that came with my WinTV PVR USB (ver 1.2) didn't work at
all in XP. The version that is currently available and has not been
upgraded ever were a problem in XP if you even sneezed near the box.

I use "plain WinTV" (878 chip based) on Win2000 and WinXP Home and Pro -
Mine is NOT the USB model, but it works fine. I was just there looking for
Vista info
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/wdm/whql_349_24025.exe
and that's the app I used to get it installed.
Running the app installs the drivers ( they are not " .inf type" files).
If you have 878 based look around there for your model - download and
install the 2 files - one has drivers and the other is the Win2000TV app.

An update to earlier note:

I downloaded the latest files from Hauppauge website earlier but when I
opened WinTV, I got 2 errors - "drivers missing " types. ( I have WinTV 878
chipset )

I finished my install so I registered Vista and Office. I then did a Windows
Update - And LISTED AS OPTIONAL Updates - Hauppauge Wintv - 2 updates -
downloaded and rebooted. Opened WinTV and it's working fine !
So I got the updates from MICROSOFT Windowsupdate - not Hauppauge !
Yet look at the name of some of these files: "Prerelease Private Build" -
who did the "building" ??

Thanks a lot Bobb I will have a go with mine later, currently on clean
install #8 after yet another experimental tweak gone badly wrong.
