Hard drive copy

A fast search of the WD web site did not reveal anything that looked like this.
Would you kindly provide more data on how to obtain the WD utility?

John,

Run it from the HDD and write it to a clean FDD, from which you must boot.

It's called "Data Lifeguard Tools", or "DLG". Version 10 works for me, but
so did earlier versions in case 10 doesn't work for you. There was a big gap
in the version numbers for some reason.

The tools not only preps and copies files to new drives byte for byte, but
has some nifty diagnostics.

I read in the instructions, that the clone is NOT bootable if one uses
WINXP.

Then it is of limited use if the primary drive goes south, IMO.

Not tried this one my self.

Make sure you read the product and info pages about some restrictions.

AFAIK, from the description it seems the free edition should work OK
when copying from smaller (source) to larger (target) disk, but not
the other way around (not in any straight forward way - without risk
of data loss). 1:1 copying on the other hand is simply not an option
in the free edition it seems.

All the best,
