That they are , though a lot of games only support very high end W/S
resolutions and you need a very good graphics card

Keep in mind that for relatively modern 3D games a
significant factor can be what video card you plan to use.
A strong card can drive the 20" displays but one showing
it's age might best be reserved to 19" screens with their
inherantly lower resolution. IOW, 1" size difference is not
as important as the supported (native) resolution.

Much as I hate to admit it, the Viewsonic VX2025wm
is not bad. Like the guy said, you need at least an
nVidia 6800 video card to get the custom resolutions
you need depending on how good your eyesite is.
Also, the ATI cards will not do custom resolutions
at all, and you will be stuck with 1680 x 1050
which will require a magnifying glass to read anything.

I currently have a 6600gt but I am in the process of putting a new
computer together so I will be buying a PCI-E graphics card at some point.

What drivers have you the experience with...5.3CATs?

and you will be stuck with 1680 x 1050

Why cause YOUR blind? or don't know when to buy glasses?

YOU'RE stupid spell checker

But depending on the game, you can scale back the graphics, so long as you
keep your ratio consistent. For example, when playing Oblivion on my
Viewsonic VX2025wm monitor (1680x1050), I put the resolution back to
1280x800, and it seems fine to me.

Personally, I own a 19" LCD: Benq FP93G X. Max res is 1280x1024, but I
run comfortably and without loss of quality at 1024x768. Monitor is 2ms
and I have not noticed any ghosting at all. I don't know if it's
available in your location, but I was able to grab this for 250
canadian dollars on sale, which would come to about 117 GBP. IMO, a
steal.

Benq might not be known for great monitors, but this one is excellent.
You can find a ton of reviews on newegg.com, it may be an American
site, but the fact remains: It has 293 reviews and an average rating
from ALL those reviews of a perfect 5/5. I think only one of the
reviewers had a dead pixel, so if you're ordering online with an
8-pixel exchange policy, that might be of interest to you.

Well, I'm retarded. I just realized you're looking specifically for a
widescreen. The one I recommended is not, so if you're hellbent on
widescreen ignore my post. If you're willing to try something that
isn't, give it a look.

I just got one today, Oblivion looks and plays great at
1680x1050, why lower the res.?

Many video cards can't drive Oblivion at 1680x1050. If I run my ATI
X1800GTO at that res, it slows down to 10 fps in some places, making it not
much fun to play. There may be some other tweaks I could do to get that
back up, but I've just set the res down instead.

I've just got a Viewsonic VX2025wm today and am
driving it with an ATI Radeon X850XT PE, there seems
to be a number of resolutions that it can be set to. Which
ones are you thinking the AIT cards and this monitor can't
use?

I used to have a CXT VL700 and used the small font on
a 1024x768 desktop. Now I use the "Large" (not the "Extra
Large") Font size, and it looks about the same.

I have heard that there is a backlight bleeding issue on the Viewsonic
VX2025wm ?, to be honest I am not entirely sure what that is. Have you
noticed any problems with it ?
