AVG does update automaticly, what other feautures does AVast has that AVG
hasn't ?

AVAST provides generic email scanning for any pop3 email client but AVG
only does it for Outlook. AVAST is generally more memory intensive, and I
found scans slower but might have better detection and cleaning abilities

Thanks for the info Aaron, I'm low on memory and using OE, so I think I'll
stick with AVG.

I used AVG for ages but now prefer and use Avast.I personally think (from my
own experimenting downloading various trojans/viruses etc)that avast catches
more than AVG and files submitted get updated quicker. However avast does use
more memory and resources (important for 98 users). Also Avast resident
shield currently does not have heuristic capability like AVG , but relies
solely on its database.

From the vendor's site...

http://www.avast.com/eng/products/desktop_protection/home_edition/free_avast_4_home_ed.html

New feature of version 4 is heuristic analysis of e-mail scanners. It
is extremely useful in protecting against new, unknown viruses and
worms that are not possible to detect by the usual means. The
heuristic module performs a thorough investigation of every e-mail
message and watches for suspicious signs that might announce virus
presence. When the number of those signs exceeds the user-defined
level, the message is considered dangerous and the user is warned.

Thats correct Larry , but unfortunately the heuristics currently only
applies to emails and not the resident/standard shield , though there is
talk that it will be in a future edition.

Simple & Short: Nope.
For Business purposes, I use McAfee corporate 7.1.0 but that is a quite
expensive one.
Low budget, you could consider to buy a licence of one of the Non-commercial
free ones.

You could also concider Norton or McAfee Home edition, or even Panda
antivirus.
The first 2 are quite expensive, and wile I simply adore McAfee Corporate
edition,
I'm not to font about the Home Edition. In that case I'd rather buy Norton
Antivirus.

Panda antivirus I only tested once when it was just available on the Dutch
market. Like Sophos, It had quite some problems. But that is some time ago.
