I'd hope so... Nothing arrived until now.
He sent me the invite 24 hours ago: how much time does it take to arrive,
usually?

Maria - It should take very little time! Check your junk-mail/spam
folder. If it's not there, ask your friend to send it again (the
invite will be in his Sent Mail folder).

GMail invites are preciously rare!

Got mine all set up. I had trouble at first; everything I was supposed
to click was greyed out. It took a while to figure out that the gmail
cannot be accessed with FireFox; I had to use IE to get things going.
If and when I get invites, I will be sure to return the favour. Thanks
guys.

Gmail can't be accessed with FireFox?

I use it with firefox. I changed the url to:
https://gmail.google.com/gmail
(note the 's' on the end of http)

Works fine.

Do you have Google cookies restricted with FireFox?

Thank you Jonathan! I checked the spam folder and the invite was there. :)
If I hadn't got your advice, the invite would have been there until
deletion...
Now I've indicated it to yahoo as no spam, I hope this helps others in the
future.

Why are gmail accounts distributed in this strange way, causing all this spam in newsgroups and all the hassle to get one?

Imagine if programs like Irfanview or Proxomitron where distributed through invites distributed person to person.

I have 6 new invites for Firefox, if anybody wants to download it send me a mail and I will put you on the waiting list.

Or if food was distributed this way.

I have 50kg potatos, if you want to eat, send me an email and I will put you on the waiting list.

Or health care. I have a friend who has 5 invites for heart surgery, send me an email and I'll se what I can do about it.

Even if I was interested in a gmail account I would never get one in this strange and demeaning way.

Goods and services should not be distributed only to people who have personal contacts, it is a sicilian way of doing things.

I often agree with your points of view, Roger.
Perhaps also this time, if you hadn't written these last words...
Are, you too, slave of stereotypes and prejudices?
Do you think "sicilian way" equals "mafia"?
I'm not sicilian, I live in North Italy, anyway I feel that "sicilian way"
very offensive.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings, but I wanted to use a globally well known example of such a system of personal contacts, which often
leads to corruption and other problems.

I know that Italy has worked very hard to get rid of such problems during the last decades, and you probably have a very clean
society today, but your recent history is well known all over the world, so it is still usable as an example.

Needs Java.

I fear you didn't get my point.
IMHO you should have said "it is a mafia way of doing things".

Sicilian people, generally speaking, is a good people, who suffers for the
influence that few still have (regrettably, Italy's society is not yet very
clean today).

I hope to have made my thought more understandable, and I want you to know
that I reacted because I know from your posts that you're sensitive to
people's rights.

Peace!

Could I be on the top 6

Hi Norm - One of us (another Norm) sent an invite to you Fri, 27 Aug
2004 22:59:02 -0500. Hopefully you've received it (check your
junk/spam folder if you don't see it).

Hi Roger - Sounds like you're frustrated because you value freedom for
all. I was intrigued when I read your point of view, as I also
strongly value freedom.

OK The GMail queue is moving again, after a long drought. Hope they'll
send me more tomorrow (they sent me 6 a couple of days ago, and 5
yesterday).

Please add me to the queue.
thanks
