Getting a new PC

Getting back again with another question.

Is there any real advantage to having a Quad-Core2 6850 (or 9650)
@3.8ghz overclocked to just having a (Quad-Core) Intel Core2 Quad
Q6700 @ 2.66GHz 1066FSB considering the graphics card I am getting
above. Going down a bit on the CPU will reduce the cost a bit and a
friend of mine said that I would be wasting money on something that
won't really be needed, even with Crysis and that the GPU I want will
more than suffice combined with a lesser CPU.

I have no idea, you didn't specify a video card in your original post.

If you want to play Crysis at full speed, you'll want to get a 3-4 card
SLI/Crossfire setup with (2) Quad Cores, fastest you can afford.
Shouldn't cost you more than $10,000 for the whole system.

OK, I exagerate, but Crysis will use whatever you throw at it.
Personally I still think it's a stupid game, and 1 video card should be
enough to get an enjoyable experience out of the game, if you just want
to play it. Personally I have more fun with Half-Life 2 or any Source
game. (Portal, FTW) Source games run great on just about anything.

As for CPU... I guess a Quad-Core 2 (never heard of them) would be
faster than a Quad-Core. Will you use that speed? I don't know. Will you
notice the difference? I doubt it, unless you're really sensitive to
that sorta thing.

I'm of the humble opinion that you should buy what can, and don't shop
around too much, just get what you need from NewEGG or ZipZoom, and have
fun. Build it fast too, because next week your computer will be
worthless, and you're gonna be stuck with it.

Ta - ta.

I can get a system with 3-slot SLI MOBO that comes with 3 - 8800GTXs
768mg for nearly $300 cheaper than my first setup I had here (that
second post showing what I wanted was supposed to include the NVIDIA
GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB, sorry), but the CPU is a quad-core 2 6600 2.4ghz
and no monitor.

Yes, I would notice a difference especially if the game(s) are made to
be able to utilize to run under a quad core system (for example, the
Xbox 360 games use three cores). The "2" as in the Quad Core 2 is an
'iteration' designator from what I gather, the newer Duo Cores have
the '2' designator also.

Sounds awesome, I'm sitting on a Q6700 for a couple weeks now, the mobo
I got with it is an Intel P33 (I think) board, which I'm thinking of
trying to get something a little beefier (like a 780i chipset, or
something) before I throw it in. Gonna try to sell my dual core or
something.

Also thinking about getting a ATi 650 PCIe TV Wonder to replace my dead
Replay TV. Getting tired of missing shows and having to download them. I
hate Cable, too expensive for what you get. Hard to justify spending
almost $2000 a year for it. :(

Best Buy I work at just got a $149 BluRay ROM drive. It's only $149, but
doesn't burn discs. I might get it. My current player doesn't work very
well (first gen samsung player).

Awesome indeedy...5.9 all the way...plays all the games at full settings
too...don't go the way of Intel mate(been there done that..silly cash) the
price of the AMD chips makes it much better a choice :)

The problem is, I get my Intel chips for free.... so it's kindda a no
brainer there. Just the mobo I gotta worry about, and RAM I guess.
