Getting back again with another question.
Is there any real advantage to having a Quad-Core2 6850 (or 9650)
@3.8ghz overclocked to just having a (Quad-Core) Intel Core2 Quad
Q6700 @ 2.66GHz 1066FSB considering the graphics card I am getting
above. Going down a bit on the CPU will reduce the cost a bit and a
friend of mine said that I would be wasting money on something that
won't really be needed, even with Crysis and that the GPU I want will
more than suffice combined with a lesser CPU.
I have no idea, you didn't specify a video card in your original post.
If you want to play Crysis at full speed, you'll want to get a 3-4 card
SLI/Crossfire setup with (2) Quad Cores, fastest you can afford.
Shouldn't cost you more than $10,000 for the whole system.
OK, I exagerate, but Crysis will use whatever you throw at it.
Personally I still think it's a stupid game, and 1 video card should be
enough to get an enjoyable experience out of the game, if you just want
to play it. Personally I have more fun with Half-Life 2 or any Source
game. (Portal, FTW) Source games run great on just about anything.
As for CPU... I guess a Quad-Core 2 (never heard of them) would be
faster than a Quad-Core. Will you use that speed? I don't know. Will you
notice the difference? I doubt it, unless you're really sensitive to
that sorta thing.
I'm of the humble opinion that you should buy what can, and don't shop
around too much, just get what you need from NewEGG or ZipZoom, and have
fun. Build it fast too, because next week your computer will be
worthless, and you're gonna be stuck with it.
Ta - ta.
