Frontpage replacement?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't recommend FrontPage Express!

It produces the world's most horrid HTML code. I've once reduced a
25kb HTML page generated by FrontPage Express to a 3kb HTML page
without changing the appearance, just by removing all the cruft and
introducing some standards.

Please consider using Nvu, at least it has an explicit commitment to
producing standards-compliant HTML. It's your best bet if you're
going the WYSIWYG HTML route.

Fine BUT I created my website using FP. How on earth do I convert all my
610 (largely single picture with text and links) to get rid of the FP
stuff?

Well, I don't know of any tools that will do the job (or part of it) automatically,
mostly because I don't use FP... A quick Google turned up some potentially useful links,
though:

http://webtips.dan.info/wysiwyg.html
http://caheinfo.wsu.edu/webtips/dreamweaver/fp_cleanup.html

You might be able to get more useful results or software if you dig a little deeper...

One thing that might help is running your pages through the W3C HTML validator:

http://validator.w3.org/

But I can imagine that that would be quite tedious, with 610 pages...

In any case, good luck, I hope you can work it out!

Second that. :)

I've revised large numbers of web pages using Info-Rapid Search & Replace:

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2005/PL2005FILEUTILITIES.php#0379-PW

I suggest you validate *one* page - identify a needed change and make
the same change on all your web pages using Info-Rapid Search & Replace.
You can step through the "found" items and change them one by one until
you are sure that no unanticipated changes will be made - then change
all the rest at one go.

FWIW - if you use that approach I don't think it will take much more
time than revising *one* web page. I suggest you keep a backed up copy
of the orignal web pages - if something goes really wrong you can start
over.
