Freeware to create fonts

Cousin JanC ....

My feeble brain initially parsed your message
as a question on the stability of Cygwin itself ....

After re-reading, I can clearly see that
you were referring to a particular program
that runs under Cygwin ....

I'll just nod on off back to sleep now ....

I couldn't find a missing dll anywhere! cygx11-6.dll which I imagine goes
with the cygwin install?

Sorry, I can't help you. Cygwin got uninstalled from my system since
other than Pfaedit, I have no use for it.

What I couldn't figure out was where to get the "X window system"
package.

I don't have cygwin installed currently, but I guess it has a name that
includes "xfree86" or "x11" (or something else with "x"). The installation
program shows all available packages somewhere.

Jan,
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. However, when I tried to look
for the X window thing, I couldn't find it. And the author of Pfaedit
says "NOTE: These are separate packages". I may have missed it though.

Hi folks,

i'm looking for any freeware program which enables me to create fonts
for Windows (if there is any chance then for Mac and Linux too).

some years ago I used ...[1] Corel Draw [2] to create my handwriting
as a TTF. It's not free, but with some luck you'll find such an old
version somewhere for low price.

It wasn't really comfortable:
- writing the letters on paper
- scan in the letters
- use a part of the software to convert the bitmap to vector graphics
- edit the vectors to reduce the number of fixed points
- save it into an existing TTF file (make a copy of arial for example)

I needed ~2 days, but the results have been OK and I still use this
TTF sometimes.

damned, I can't really remember the name of the software :( it's still
around in version 11 or 12 or even higher. I used the 3.0 version
IIRC, and newer versions didn't include the essential parts to create
vector graphics. Its a graphics suite like paint shop...

~two hours later I eventually remembered the name, phew, that was hard
work...

Viele Grüße,
Sascha
