No.

Maybe I should rephrase my question...what is the name of a newsgroup
focusing on freeware that is not full of spam and where 75% of the posts are
not bitching and whining about where someone posts, how much someone
clips/doesn't clip, or some other mundane load of crap that doesn't have
anything to do with software?

If you find one let us know !!!

There is also
alt.comp.freeware.discussion
alt.comp.freeware.games
alt.binaries.freeware
Mark

Thanks, but the alt.binaries.freeware is the only one in your list that my
server pulls at present...not really a good discussion type of area. The
other freeware groups this ISP pulls are nothing more than spambuckets.

My newsserver carries at the moment:
alt.binaries.freeware
alt.binaries.dominion.freeware
alt.comp.freeware
alt.comp.freeware.discussion
alt.comp.freeware.games
alt.comp.freeware.gdp
alt.fr.freewares.auteurs
But if I can trust my newsserver, alt.comp.freeware is the most 'alive'
There may be others, my newsserver does not carry or others in different
languages.

There is no such animal (ng) anywhere on usenet (unless the ng is
moderated).
Learn to ignore the fanatics (grow a thicker skin) at both ends of the
spectrum, read the ng faqs to get the scope and parameters of the ng,
and do your own thing respecting the desires of the majority.

My ISP sucks. I've decided to set up a few groups on one of my own news
servers. If anyone is interested in a "coffee-table" discussion group with
no bitching, moaning, whining, or pissing into the wind for distance you can
email me at ceg at porch dot sytes dot net for details.

Well said. I have most of the cry babies filtered out which makes
reading this group much better.

Sounds like your whining about this community???

I think in general that acf operates fairly peacefully
and has informed adherents.

No...it sounds like I'm asking for a pointer to a no-nonsense newsgroup. If
I was whining about this newsgroup I'd be participating in the endless
bitchfests in regard to the top versus bottom posting, clipping versus not
clipping, and the numerous differences between what determines freeware from
open source from whateverware.

Have your ISP server add alt.comp.freeware.discussion. Sounds like
something you'd like.

Sounds off-topic to me. Even sounds a little bit like bitching and whining.
See how easy it is to break rigid rules? Even rules you approve of?

Settle down, chill out, and enjoy the group. It's not half as bad as most,
believe me. Go find us the best Freeware find of the month. There's only 2
days left! :)

I used to get that group with an old ISP...current ISP is pretty slack.

I've followed this newsgroup for several years now. It used to be a
productive area.
