Steven,
I would be interested to learn more about this idea of yours. I, for
one, am always looking for free territory on the net to plomp web pages.
What requirements are there on your end to accomplish this? What avenues
for income are available to you? What hardware/software are involved?
I'm stuck with dialup because of my geographic location, but I'd like to
know what you big city slickers are up to....

I spoke with a friend a couple hours ago that offers paid hosting about the
possibility of offering free hosting. Unfortunately, it is not looking good
(mainly because as I said, it is going to cost me an arm, leg, and by the
looks of it, every other body part). I could go the sponsered avenue and
place ad's on hosted site's, but if that was the only option available, I
would just bin the idea (I point blankly refuse to go "ad supported"
routes).

I could go the sub-domain route, this would cost me £6 per sub-domain.
Unfortunately, I have no income coming in so could not afford to do this. (I
do currently have a couple of clients that use sub-domains paid for by me,
and one using a .co.uk that I pay for, but I am struggling to afford the
one's I have atm, let alone offering more).

I could host the site's on my own hard drive as I am on (alledged)
Broadband. However, the costs for upgrading my tiny 2.5gb HD, purhasing the
necessary software are way too large at present (I am looking further into
this avenue).

Discussion of free servers has been considered by many (myself
included) in this group to be on-topic because there are many freeware
site webmasters who need such a service.

There are freeware site webmasters who require other services as well.

Does anyone know of a free webpage service, which doesn't suddenly
want to charge you after two weeks of *free* usage?!

Yahoo is becoming an absolute pain.

Thanks.

Ruth.

Check out http://free.hostdepartment.com/ They now ftp upload.
They put almost invisible link at bottom of each page to their site
and their homepage comes up on screen only when you leave your site.
