Does anyone know of a free webpage service, which doesn't suddenly
want to charge you after two weeks of *free* usage?!

Yahoo is becoming an absolute pain.

Thanks.

Ruth.

http://www.freewebspace.net/ has a lot of free providers listed, usually
with description, features, ratings etc...

YOu could also ask in <if you do not find what
your are looking for otherwise.

bye,

Onno

Most free web space hosters provide this service on the contrary that you
register a domain name via them. Me too am looking for a dependable free web
space of ~50-100M but couldn't find one yet.
Good reccomendations are wellcome.

Prohosting has a free 50 MB service -- http://free.prohosting.com/

They say "no banner ads" on that, but that's not entirley accurate: I
think you can only get rid of the banners by paying a small one-off fee
up front ($5 or something), but you have to do that when you set the
account up. (If you do it later, it appears to be a yearly charge.)

The let you relegate the banner to a pop-up rather than plastered on
your site, though, which is how I choose to use it. (It's a back-up
site for me, so I don't really mind the banners.)

I went throught the sign-up steps, and the end screen said configuration
information and my password would be sent by postal mail. I'm hardly holding
my breath, for them to pony up costs for mail across the Atlantic. ;)

Thanks all the same, SOS, but I have to sum this one a NoGo.

I use www.netfirms.com for three local non-profit groups for whom I
do simple web page production. The "free" account places a small
advertisement banner at the top of your pages, but IMO it is not
obtrusive and there have been no complaints. There are also file
storage and band-width limits that apply to the free accounts, but I
don't recall what they are as they have not been an impediment for us.

One great advantage that I like about netfirms is that they allow file
transfers via ftp. That makes maintenance much faster IMO than those
web-browser interfaces.

I am considering starting up a free "no ad's or popups" hosting service
(just like my free hosted guestbook service). The main problem I am coming
accross is basically, it's going to cost me an arm and a leg to do it
(either way I do it, I'd have to pay for the hosting of the site's, which
isn't going to be cheap).

I'll let everyone know what decision I come to, when I come to one.

:) Hi Steven

Could you kindly bottom post at this group please.
And if you do start your service could you announce it at group that is
relevant to hosting not a freeware group.

Much thanks. And nice seeing you here.

Boomer,
Discussion of free servers has been considered by many (myself
included) in this group to be on-topic because there are many freeware
site webmasters who need such a service. For instance, S.O.S.

YMMV

I am happy to agree with John on this.
