partitions [D & E] Well format went OK I thought??? Have reinstalled OS
Win Millenium. Seems fine!
BIG PROBLEM is my D& E are gone missing.
PC named my burner D: and CDROM E:
So I only have C:,D:,E: and 40 GB of missing data.
ANy input would be greatly appreciated. Help!!!!. Did backup most of my
stuff but not all of it. :(
TIA

Does the 40GB drive show up in the drive list on the black
bios screen at boot time ? Likely not from the detail below.

Its likely something pretty basic like you havent got a power
lead plugged into it or its not jumpered correctly etc.

Hi Rod,
It is showing up on splash screen. Did not change any jumpers. Was just
working on C: drive. C: was primary master, d: was slave partitioned
into 2. Didn't think formatting C: would affect the other Hardrive??/

It shouldnt have done.

But it looks rather like you somehow managed to wipe
the MBR on the 40GB drive and so its no longer seen
at the OS level because its no longer partitioned.

It is possible to rebuild the MBR and the authors of a couple of
those utes do read here, so hopefully one of those will comment.

Yeah, thats the problem, its somehow got the MBR
mangled and its now showing as a single non dos partition.

The MBR can be repaired, hopefully Svend or
Joep who have utes to repair it will comment.

Dont try repairing it yourself until they comment,
too much risk of buggering it up irrepairably.

Thanks Rod,
Well what did I do this time??
Does that mean the data is gone too or maybe it can be recovered. Or
will I just be able to use the drive again - EMPTY.
I guess I should disconnected this other HD before formating C:
With the 40Gb being the slave do some of the fdisk commands
from C:go astray? Or was it me?
Tried to be so careful! Thanks will check back later - Hoping for a bit
of good news.

To provide more information, you can download Findpart at

http://inet.uni2.dk/~svolaf/utilities.htm

do:

findpart all fp.txt

and insert (not attach) the output here.

Svend,
Unsure what is wrong.
I downloaded program. Unzipped and tried to run. But I just get a flash
of a DOS screen and it disappears very quickly. It looks like it [the
exe file] is the same as the readme file.
Help Please
Thank you very much
Jan

Download

http://inet.uni2.dk/~svolaf/fp.zip

Put fp.bat in the same directory as findpart.exe, and double click
fp.bat. Then you get the file fp.txt.

OK I hope this is it. Thank You Svend!!

Thanks Rod,
Well what did I do this time??

Hard to say. Its possible to kill an MBR by putting
the ribbon cable on backwards temporarily.

Its also possible to bugger it up by playing
around with the drive type entry for that drive.
Does that mean the data is gone too or maybe it can be recovered.

Almost certainly recoverable.
Or will I just be able to use the drive again - EMPTY.

You can certainly do that, but you should be able to get the data back.

Yeah, it should be feasible to get the data back with a bit of care.

There is nothing wrong, except that the disk manager EZ-drive is
installed on disk 2. Originally it was on disk 1 too.

It can be solved by uninstalling EZ-drive, or editing the partition
tables. Alternatively the files can be copied to disk 1 using a
recovery tool.

From what Svend has said it appears that you wiped
the bios overlay when you formatted the boot drive and
so the 40GB drive then became invisible to the OS.

As far as I can figure out, the BIOS does support the full disk size,
so it will be OK to edit the partition tables. I will make a batch
file to edit the partition tables, and post it later.

Thank You SO much will check back later. Do you have any idea how I
messed this up?

Thank You SO much will check back later. Do you have any idea how I
messed this up?

For now we will concentrate on solving it.

Get the file jarek1.bat in:

http://inet.uni2.dk/~svolaf/jarek1.zip

Put jarek1.bat in the same directory as findpart.exe, and run (double
click) jarek1.bat, which contains:

set findpart=edit
findpart 2 0 1 * 0C 0 1 1 2244 254 63 0 4982 255 63 26
findpart 2 0 2 - 0F 2245 0 1 4981 254 63 0 4982 255 63 26
set findpart=
findpart 2 table fp2-1.txt

Then reboot.
