The voice of "Chakolate" drifted in on the cyber-winds,
from the sea of virtual chaos...
How do you do this? That is, what app do I use to open a .js file?

Type "about:config" in Firefox's Location bar and "SingleWindowMode" in
that window's filter bar. When you right click on that entry, all you
need to do is use "toggle" to change it to true.

So do you rename it first? Wordpad wouldn't open mine. Sorry if I'm being
stoopid, but sometimes I just am.

Find it in your profile folder. For me it is:
C:\Documents and Settings\Maria Luisa\Dati applicazioni\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.xxx\user.js
Then drag and drop it on whichever text editor :-)

Wordpad wouldn't open your user.js file? If that's the case, you've
got a serious problem with wordpad.

Someone's already mentioned the about:config way to do it, but in
addition I strongly recommend the ChromEdit extension. It lets you open
and edit all your config files, without having to hunt through oddly
named directories for them.

Well said. Here it is the link to its home page:
