firefox hijacked my icons!

Three things that turned me off from ff right from the get-go was that it
didn't import all my IE bookmarks,

Firefox will do that. Perhaps you were using a version prior to that being
introduced.
it was slower loading

It is slower to start up because, as others have pointed out, IE is
already resident. IOW, you lose a few seconds when Firefox starts. IE,
otoh, uses some of your pc's memory whether it is active or not.
and moving from site to site than IE,

Firefox does this faster in just about every test.
and the initial interface in ff is really ugly...kind of
cartoonish-looking.

So change it. It takes a matter of seconds, and you have a lot more
control than you do in IE.
The fact that Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel still left alot
of "remnants" of ff in the registry was just one more reason I didn't
want it.

Mmmm...and IE doesn't put anything on your computer that you might not
want there....yeah.

Most recent updates of IE as well as a ff download from their site within
the past 2 weeks. Any more recent that 2 weeks is generally negligible.

7 to 8 seconds for ff to load is way too slow for my likes.

Maybe on your PC, not on mine.

Reread..."the initial interface".

That's not the point. Reread...uninstalling ff (the program in focus) left
alot of remnants in my registry.

Mine is at least ten times that, and Firefox handles it just fine :-)

Seems to me all he wants to do is bitch and moan. I'm ignoring him from
this point. Firefox is ten times the browser IE is.

This guy might even be an IE/Microsoft shill from one of their newsgroups.

His question has been answered. Let's not give him any more attention.

Glad you got it fixed.

It was getting really frustrating...I was running out of places to check.
Every day I get closer and closer to going back to Netscape 4.7.

I'd really be curious why we see such different results. In a past thread, someone
else posted they saw what I did. What version are you running?

You could also check Control Panel/Folder Options, File Types tab and check
the file associations of html and htm files.
Get to Folder Options in Control Panel, not just in Explorer- thanks for the tip,
Doc. That was the only feature 2XExplorer does not have, and it's quicker for me
to open Control Panel than open Explorer. Now I may never open Explorer again!

I'm using the latest release, but I've been using Firefox for about eight
months and have never experienced any problems with the bookmarks.

One thing I _really_ like about Firefox is that when you go ctrl-D you
can throw the bookmark into one of your bookmark folders - and Firefox
maintains a list of the most recently used folders. Very handy in
keeping the 'menu' short.

No, the Control Panel leads to Folders, but not File Types, still need Explorer.
