There's a newish extension, Tab Mix, that aims eventually to provide
what TBE does without the problems, but Tab Mix is still in the
unstable/testing phase.

Just downloaded/installed Tab Mix.

Answer to my prayers.

The 'multi-row' tabs totally rock - allowing one to have a zillion tabs
open without wasting screen real estate, yet still being able to see
sufficient characters in the tab title to know what the tab is.

Thanks for mentioning it. Now, Firefox is my main browser :)

TBE is not on the Mozilla site. It's at
<http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/tabextensions/index.html.en>. I don't
use it because of numerous annoying bugs in the past, but I don't know
about its current state.

Im not sure if this was the one i used but i switched back to mozilla
soas to be able to use there multizilla extension which doesnt work on
firefox
since th firefox extensiion had problems

A release of Multizilla for Firefox is planned for this year.

Spoke too soon. TabMix causes Firefox to freeze on startup.
So I've switched to standard Mozilla - which has a much better and more
powerful tab browsing extension anyway.

Which version of Firefox were you using it with? Tabmix is only recommended
for use with the original release version (1.0).

One major restriction in Firefox - the inability to group the tabs down
the left edge of the window. Nearly all browsers suffer this, except for
Opera and Galeon. It's a dealbreaker for me until Firefox supports it.

Okay, write the extension. Do not wait for others to do it.

This way you will have what you want, and you will be able to offer the
advantages to others.

See open source is not suck it and see, but rather suck it and see that
improvement is in your hands.

Can not write the extension, okay get someone who can interested.

Open source software, has all the doors unlocked. Expend the effort and
turn the handle.

Huh??

I've got the tabbrowser extension loaded. Nothing shows up on the
options about tabbar placement. Can you help me out?

Platform please! Firefox runs all over the place. Not all extensions
follow.

Sorry about lack of help, but I went away for the weekend just after I
made my post however it looks like many have replied any ways

Tried Firefox and got tired of the tabs sometimes showing and
other times they dissapeard only to find numerous windows had been
minimised to my toolbar

That's strange. I've never experienced that, nor have I ever seen that
behavior reported (though I don't read MozillaZine if I can help it).
Were you using any of the extensions for tabbed browsing?

I doubt mozilla's default tab browsing features are more powerful
than TBE or even TabMix. Which feature(s) does Mozilla have you are
missing with TabMix or TBE ?

Mozilla has available for it the excellent Multizilla extension, which
adds a great deal to the limited built in features of Mozilla.

yeah, those bastard open sources purposly limiting the usefulness of
mozilla until a third party addon is installed to unlock the features...
