Get rid of the Creative CD-Rom. It sticks out like a sore thumb! -Dave

I thought of it, but it actually adds a bit of street credibility to
the box. One doesn't want to be seen as too narcissistic you know...

It's also an extremely well built drive.

The drive is uglier than a mud duck.

It's a sweet machine.

How fast does it boot Windows after all the BIOS screens disappear?

Just under a minute. The SCSI step in POST does not add significantly
to boot time. The drive speed more than makes up for it anyway.

Does the drive run hotter and noisier than a SATA 7200rpm?

How many case fans does that case have - 120mm, 96mm?

Much hotter and much noisier; which factored heavily in my choice of
cases. Fortunately, the Nexus Breeze is every bit as quiet as they
claim.

I have a Vantec ICEBERQ cooler attached directly to the drive.

It has one 120mm on the bottom and another beneath the PSU. Airflow is
quite good. The CPU idols at about 30c with the stock heat sync.

Hello, Agent_C!

Where did you get the plans for the PVC frame? I don't think you
will ever have a over heating problem there. Was the Abit MB a money
consideration or did it have more features than similar boards in it's
class? I am more interested in the ugly duckling.

That's not my build. Someone in this group posted that about 5-years
ago.

The main consideration was the Intel 955x chipset. I wanted a no
frills motherboard that could run at the new Dual Core CPU's @ 800
MHz.

I've always had good luck with Abit boards; and at $84 this was very
attractive.

If I stuck something like that in a black case for a custome they wouldn't
buy it. Get a black faceplate.

Agent_C,

Thanks, for the reply. I am trying to figure out if it is better to
build another computer myself, or buy a Gateway or Dell within the
next six months.

I’m sure there’s no shortage of opinions on this; but based on my
recent experience, I’d presently recommend HP for an OEM machine.

I’ve procured 4 in the last year for myself, friends and family and
everyone has been extremely happy with both the machines and support.
If you buy on the web site, ordering is a snap and you *always* get
the order before the projected delivery date.

Their tech support procedures will probably seem cumbersome to most in
this group, as they walk you through a series of very scripted steps
that can be quite time consuming. However, in the 2 instances I’ve
contacted them, they were able to resolve the problem with a single
call. I have also never had to wait in a queue longer than 10 minutes.

I compare this to the horror stories I regularly hear about Dell and
Gateway and it seems like a no-brainer.

DVD DL burners about the same. Mad to buy a DVD rom anymore.

Is the led display, looks like it has the temp, etc. a part of the pc case
or bought separately?
