FEAR running slow

any guys hereplayed FEAR.ive just installed it on my PC yesterday but i havent enjoyed the experience so far.play looks good but not on my PC,it runnig really slow.lots of lag...im not sure what's causing it... need help to run it faster so i coul;d enjoy the game..

here's my PC specs to give you ideas on which areas i might be needing upgrades:

P4 2.6Ghz Dual core
Kingston 1G RAM
Inno3d 6600 vanilla
40G HDD
audigy 2
 
I dont see why that spec wouldn't run it...

Have you defraged and how much space is left on the hard disk?
Clear of any Spyware/virus?
Patched the game?
What game settings are you trying to run it on?
 
Considering its a 40Gb hd, you might want to look at remvoing some stuff from it, like V_R said :)
 
need some more details like your motherboard and CPU model as well as how much space it has free on your HD and what rpm it spins plus as already mentioned the settings your trying to run the game at
 
well im just running the game on medium settings and tried it on low settings and still lags. im using a 40G Seagate 7200rpm with 3G free after i installed the game. im thingking of upgrading to a 120G SATA HD soon

anyway i have no problems with spyware on it and viruses as i dont use my gaming PC on the internet.

im using an asus motherboad P5VDC
and i have the 1 gig ram on 2 512mb on dual channel.

anyway the PC runs other games ok like heroes V and Quake 4

Yes it will help, but i dont know if you got enough space left to do it though.

Anyway as for having 3gb left, you really need to think about removing some programs :)
 
you should have more space left than 3gig on your hard drive. Uninstall some un-needed games or software mate, then run a nice ole defrag, seeing as you havent done it on your computer it will take at least 1 hour i should think.

well i have removed a couple of old games im not playing anymore. no luck at all :(

how much space would i need??? i got my free space up to 5 gig now.

im gonna go ahead and try to defrag in the morning.anyway is there any truth that too much defragging could make a HDD go bad :eek:

Try defragging in the morning, it should clear things up a bit. like you said, you should be having about 80gb hd minimum, if your mainly playing games on it :D
 
hehe:D maybe i have too much games on this PC...

i'll be running the defrag overnight so it will be done when i wake up:p

ill be getting me a new SATA HDD this saturday after payday

..a 120GB Baraccuda on 74000rpm should do the trcik;)

Funnily enough, FEAR is the only game I've had issues with running on my current setup. Sometime it lags and will actually freeze/pause between scenes.

All other games are Ok, HL2/HL2 Episode One/Quake 4/Doom 3/Godfather/Painkiller Black Edition/NFS Most Wanted/Far Cry and quite a few others run fine.

I defrag my system using Diskeeper V7.0 every few days.

Here's brief specs:

AMD XP3200 Socket A 2.2Ghz @ 2.4Ghz
1gb RAM - Crucial Standard PC3200, 2 x 512Mb in dual Channel mode
DFI Lan Party Ultra B Nvidia 2 Chipset Motherboard
2 x WD Raptor 35Gb drives in RAID 0 plus 160Gb PATA Drive for backup
Nvidia 256Mb Nvidia 6800GT Video card
Tagan 480W PSU
 
Thats inteesting because my friend runs fear near perfectly on:
1x512mb pc3200 crucial ram
Nvidia 6200 256mb card
and something like a 2.2ghz cpu.

:confused: Not sure why it runs so smoothly on his
 
This really sucks:mad: i've done the defrag and its still the same:(

i dont understand why all other games works ok.i can play Quake 4 and Doom3 on high detail and no problems.HL also works good on my setup.maybe its with the games engine.. i dont know.

im gonna go ahead and ask for a refund for this game if the store i bought it in allows it and get HL Episode 1

V7.0 is old, V10.0 is out now, but my V7.0 still does the job.

Seems to have gone up in price though, I think I only paid about £18.00 for mine several years ago.

I just finished FEAR, thoroughly enjoyed that, what an, uh... unexpected ending ;)
 
yeah really sucks:(.got me going there coz ive seen the trailer of the game and it really looks good...

it took a lot of time on the installation.two hrs... two possible hours og gaming time gone..:p

anyways the local game store where i bought it will have HL episode one and im gonna throw in hitman bloddmoney together with it too. game looks good on paper so i'll put her how it goes once i got it installed.:thumb:
