tks everybody in this group Ive nearly got my fax working, with DSL with my
computer - you are right you just stick in a 2-way adaptor into the phone
jack of the DSL filter and conect a good old fashioned 56k dial up modem in
the computer (fortunately I never trashed the old modem when I installed the
wireless card to get to the DSL router!) .Then you just configure fax in the
fax console. I managed to receive and print a fax. But I am getting error on
sending a fax. As I knew no other numbers, I made the TSID and the CSID the
same as my phone # It worked to Receive, why not to Send? Any ideas anybody?
The only other problem is I dunno yet is, if I'm out, does the fax reply to a
phone call with that ghastly squeal to the caller instead of BT call miner
(phone co answering service) ?
Jack --
First of all, you should start your own thread instead of piggybacking
on a week-old chat between Darlene and Peter.
Second, TSID and CSID are only "required" -- if at all -- by your
telephone company and/or government. The fax software doesn't care what
you call yourself or how you identify yourself to others.
Third, as far as your inability to send is concerned, double check to
make sure that "Enable send" is checked. See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306550/ (How to enable and configure the
Fax service in Windows XP). If that's not your problem, post back in a
new thread with a descriptive subject and a description of exactly what
happens when you try to send, including the complete text of any error
messages you get. "I'm getting an error" doesn't help in diagnosing
things. Describe how you are attempting to send a fax. Also, please
check to ensure that your fax modem is on the Windows HCL (now the
Windows catalog):
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx
Fourth, if you configure fax to automatically receive, it will answer
ALL incoming calls. Unless you can configure BT call minder to answer
after a fewer number of rings than you have configured the fax console
to answer, then yes, while you are away, callers will year the fax tone
when they call you.
