Look for the DDR II ones.. usually 256MB.

Samsung are mass producing 400MHz memory that would slot straight into a
128MB 9800. I wonder what sort of prices it is.

Assuming the 256MB DDR II ones use 16 chips, they have 400, 450 and 500MHz
chips listed as production.

I can get my core to ~450MHz - imagine the scores with memory in synch.

I can't find a supplier for any of the parts to gauge the price increase -
or replace the ones on my board :-)

I think I've seen the 2.86 or 3.3 for around $4.60 each, but that is almost
certainly in bulk.

Nice cooler.

No it's not, it shouts GeForce vacuum cleaner all over again! Although they
say it is pretty quiet.

However, they do have very respectable clocks of 474/384, I can get 450/360
on my Crucial with a Zalman ZM80A-HP and no memory sinks, and relatively
poor case airflow. Apparently the frame around the GPU (presumably to
protect it) lifts the heatsink from the GPU... I pumped a load of arctic
silver in there, but would expect better scores by removing/modifying the
frame and being VERY careful :-)

It's a nice cooler if it works and is quiet, it doesn't matter what it
reminds you of.

Never stuck anything in pci slot 1 anyway

Same irq i think as agp slot.Stretching back to win98 days,no
doubt alright with Winxp but the habit stuck with me and I
only have a Hot rod 100pro ans SB live anyway

Am I mistaken or didn't you say you used the Zalman cooler? That takes the
first pci slot as well.

You sure you have it installed correctly then? I don't have one but
was planning to buy one and I doubt Zalman would design so that the
heatsink doesn't have good contact with the GPU. If you look at the
Zalman website you will see that they have diagrams showing how it
should be correctly installed and how it shouldn't.

I actually installed one of these on Saturday. The block at the back of the
card is not supposed to touch but if the front one isn't touching then it
has been assembled incorrectly.

Yes. I can reach 450MHz without problems.

Not Zalmans design... ATIs.

Indeed. I have the manual.

Thanks for your concern.

You may like to check page 7 of the manual. Section 1.2) 5th sentance:

"Also, in the case of the ATI 9700 Pro, the protruding graphics core is
surrounded by a protective frame, which is higher than the core itself, thus
generous amounts of thermal grease must be applied on the core."

I'm sure you noticed the more-than-you-would-normally-expect amounts of
thermal compound on the core when you removed the old heatsink of your 9700
Pro? I believe this applies to the 9800 as well (I seem to recall quite a
bit of paste on there)

When I said the frame is higher, I'm not talking about mm... I'm talking
about fag papers.

It's a nice bit of kit, sure looks purdy in the case.

I have indeed. The Zalman was for a friend's GF4 who's fan gave up on him
for the second time. This was a Powercolor GF4 made by chaintech.
My 9700 pro has a TT copper cooler on it.(with a noisy fan ) :o(

Well, that's not good if you have to compensatefor it with grease.
You need good contact for it to work well. Is this the newer Zalman HP
or the older one? Or does the same issue apply to both?

Not Zalmans design... ATIs.

I think Zalman changed the design on the ZALMAN ZM80C-HP though to
address this issue. Could be wrong but I seem to remember reading
something about that.
