Even BIOS will not come up anymore. No System Post

Sorry to burst your bubbles gents ... no video card "needs" a fan ... but don't they look great. ;)

An Intel DX4/100 CPU didn't even need a heatsync and early models never came with HSF.

However, If I were a manufacturer and needed to cut down on the "size of the heatsysc" then a fan would help, shame the reliability on some of these "fans" are rubbish.

See pic ... Sapphire Radeon 9600XT
You haven't burst my bubble at all.

It's a proven fact that any IC that runs hot will perform better/last longer if it's cooled.

We agreed on that?

Therefore, a good heatsink and fan cooling will be for the better.

I have remarked in another thread that some lower end vid cards will have a fan fitted to make it more attractive to the consumer and I still stand by that opinion.

However, higher end vid cards will be better off for fan cooling.

That 9600XT you've shown is made by Sapphire. Sapphire are cheapskates who skimp on costs. I've had to RMA two of them after they burnt up. They is crap, imo. Therefore, imo that manufacturer's card cannot be held up as an example of a typical 9600XT.

Take a look at other manufacturer's versions of the 9600XT, the Hercules for instance, you'll note they have fans fitted.

Again, sorry, but imo you're wrong. You seem to be challenging one of the basic concepts of electronics, vis-a-vis - cooler is better.

Is it just possible that the fan is triggered on, only when the processor reaches a certain temperature? i.e. it is thermostatically controlled?......
