Jan,

Blimey! What have I started!!!!

Epson print heads are expensive and if run dry you have a major problem. They leave about 15% left when then are considered empty. This is taken into consideration in the label when they disclose the usable amount.

I was disturbed to find that the carts which my Epson R300 claimed were
empty (it wouldn't do anything until I swapped) still seemed to have
substantial ink left in them (I shook them and heard liquid slopping
around).
I have the SCC utility but that doesn't seem to be able to force the printer
to reset the levels.

Does anyone experience this?

| LOL.

| Epson apparently is working on a technology that will change the brand
| name of their printers if you use 3rd party inks, refills, or even
| non-Epson paper. Other inkjet manufacturers are sure to follow.

If they do that does that make the printer be in violation of EPSON's
patents?

You've started nothing extraordinary Nigel. Any discussion of Epson usually deteriorates into nonsensical cliches and generalizations by anti-Epson cheerleaders during the thread. Some folks actually think they're at war with other folks in this newsgroup because they use Epsons or have found a way to refill cartridges and get satisfaction, save money and a way to beat Epson's exhorbitant prices for ink. It's actually not difficult to get one's facts out and point made, one just has to weed through the ka ka. Killfiling eccentrics makes for a lot easier reading.

Yes, they will send the Epson patent patrol to pick them up and shred
them (right in front of you, no less) as a violation of the trademark
and patent acts.
