OK, let's abandon subtlety, since it hasn't worked. What is dirty file
notification?
I'd guess it means the file's been changed since its last save.

Metapad . . . . Dirty file notification puts an asterisk in the caption
for any unsaved file.

A file is "dirty" if it has been modified since it was last saved.
Dirty file notification is the "This file has been modified. Do you
want to save it now?" message that you get if you change a file and
then try to close the app without saving first. I don't know the
origin of this usage of the word "dirty," and it's not in the jargon
file. Anybody?
Phone_Messages.txt file. It sure is nice to see a translucent window

Hey! Let's simplify things: MetaPad rocks 'cause it's a tweaked-out,
*translucent* text editor! I wouldn't keep it if it didn't do that
translucent trick! NoteTab Light is my text editor of choice (with
HEXcellent coming in at second), but I autostart MetaPad at login with my
Phone_Messages.txt file. It sure is nice to see a translucent window

Makes sense. Thanks.

Yes, I've seen the indicators before (another being an asterisk next to the
file name in the titlebar of a modified file ie. Kwrite IIRC) but never had a
name for the convention, until now.

Ah! Never cought the Kwrite asterisk. <clickety>
Kate/Kwrite put the label "[modified]" after the filename in the title bar.

Priceless ? So what's it called if you can close every window with the
esc key ? Super priceless ?

then on Syntax coloring tab, choose Clickable URLs and then click on Apply.
Now you should see clickable hyperlinks in your text (they need a double
click).
