I use a PcChips M848ALU which is a stripped down version of the ECS L7S7A2
And the AsRock K7S8XE looks the same or a slightly newer revision.

Come on Ed, you've got to get off this kick as I've pointed out many
websites that have this fix and others for the K7S5A board. You said you
saw it online, but can you be sure it was actually ECS. Perhaps you were
mistaken, or someone posed as ECS, which any 10 year old could do. Once
again.

Results 1 - 10 of about 23,400 for k7s5a fix - 0.33 sec

And Number 1.

K7S5A M830LR Memtest86 Data corruption problem fix
Memtest86 and Data corruption problem fix. To fix this problem, add a 200
to 220 Ohm resistor in parallel to the 56 Ohm ZP resistor. This makes the
ZP resistance about 46 Ohms and generally solves the data corruption
problem.

That's great, but

1. On one specific web site, a fix was posted, a forum thread was
flourishing.
2. ECS shot it down and had it removed.

Are you doubting my memory and sanity?

Since they did that, they are out, in my book.

This can't change.

You will have to convince yourself it didn't happen, I guess. But that will
not make it go away for me.

So whenever ECS comes up, you'll see it again.

i'm still trying to figure out 1) how anyone at ECS knew about the
posting. 2) how ECS could have had it removed. and 3) how you know it was
actually someone at ECS that had this much power that no other person in
the world would have telling others what and what not they can talk about.

Now do you see why I doubt your recollection? it just doesn't make any
sense.

Perhaps the webmaster received sample boards to review.

Perhaps he contacted them about a fix.

Perhaps they actually surf the net.
2) how ECS could have had it removed.

Lawsuit looming.

3) how you know it was

How likely is it the webmaster couldn't tell a prankster impersonating ECS?

Oh! Maybe you think the threat was in the forum? No, they contacted the
webmaster personally.

Corporate lawyers looming can overpower a little bitty website.

Wes, it's a drag because I was in love with ECS at the time. They made the
only K7 board with integrated video that had 5 pci slots. I never got one,
though.

Personally, I'd blame the little webiste owner for not having enough balls
to stand up for his rights and the rights of his users. And not being able
to tell a bluff. First, there would be no merit to the suit. A counter
claim of harrassment could win him millions. And if you think they would
want that kind of press, think again. Just think of the headlines.
Mainboard manufacturer ECS sues small webmaster for allowing peoiple to
talk about a confirmed fix for a defectively manufacuterd mianboard by ECS.
Right. They'd probably pay a million just to keep that out if the
headlines.

I like your attitude. But your own lawyers can clean you out.
