DST -- Dual booters beware!

Been happening to me since I first started dual booting XP and ME. It
changes only once per operating system. You can set it back the 1
hour and everything will be okay, or wait until your next internet
update and it will be corrected for you. The time is stored in your
BIOS and updated by Windows who doesn't know or care that you had
another system do it. If they had sharp programmers, all they would
do is force an internet update on first boot when after the scheduled
change over. Not complicated, but does require thought.
That wouldn't help. Time servers give the time in GMT and Windows
assumes the hardware clock is local time, so Windows would still have to
change the hardware clock to match the current local time to adjust for
DST.

Dave

Think about it. If, instead of just adjusting the time by 1 hour, they
checked the correct time and made the adjustment required for the time zone,
you would have the correct time (not the time adjusted by 1 hour for each
system booted into).

Then a few minutes later the automatic time service will notice your
clock is off and correct it.

Not if you have the Internet Synch turned off ....

OK, I see now what you were saying, I misunderstood after reading it the
first time.

True. Any time you turn off an automatic feature of Windows, you're
taking responsibility to do it yourself, or live with the results of not
performing that action.

I've been waiting for ages .... <gdr>

My signature rotation script doesn't work in Vista yet (mostly due to
lack of inclination to re-write it to run in user mode, it currently
prefers to run as a service)

One of these days...

Is that because I don't have Java installed yet? Or ?

Naa, it runs on my side and makes some bad assumptions about being able
to write a temp file into the directory of the command processor I'm
using.

The bulk of the code predates Windows 95, which is why it was written
with a bad assumption or two :)

I'll probably whip together something simple as soon as I have a bit of
time to do some coding.

I have a couple of applications like that (not written by me <g>) which
are running OK here in VISTA -- but I guess they don't depend on
scripting.

In my case, the scripting language has evolved and is one of the more
powerful command line interpreters for the Windows platform. My code
just hasn't kept up.

From the notes in the file, it was written under MSDOS 5, originally.
