dreaming of 8.5" x 13" paper

Such a size would allow four 4x6 prints
on a sheet.

Yes, I can cut my own, but it'd be nice
if Epson/HP/Canon/somebody just realized
what a cool size this would be and produced some.

-- stan

It would also allow making 8" x 12" prints
from DSLRs, rather than the 6.67" x 10" prints
that work on 8.5" x 11" paper.

We are not using typewriters to compose business
letters. We are printing pictures that have some
standard useful and natural sizes. 8.5" x 11" is
an artifact of another usage culture. 8.5" x 13"
makes much more sense.

I gather that you're talking about printing photos and I don't know
about that. However, I still have half a ream of 8.5 x 13 copier-grade
paper left over from when I worked in the middle east, where it is a
commonly found size.

Having said that, though, I must add: what's all this about 'an artifact
of another usage culture'?!? I would submit that _anything_ measured in
inches is such an artifact in the world of 2005.

cheers,

Henry

Some manufacturers do make a 13 x 19 glossy. Don't know if it is any good,
but Epson makes one. You could probably get 6 4x6's from 1 sheet. I haven't
seen it in stores, but I saw it
here:http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0171

Other places seem to have it as well.

Hello Pam

Yes. I use the Epson 13x19 ColorLife paper and others. They're
quite wonderful. And, yes, as noted in my original email, I can
cut one of those sheets and get a pair of 9.5 x 13 sheets.

But I don't want to cut. I want the manufacturers to realize that,
for printing photos, 8.5" x 13" is an excellent size choice, BETTER
for most PHOTOGRAPHIC purposes that 8.5" x 11".

This is, of course, MY dream. But I'd like it to spread.
That's how favorite dreams are.

You gather correctly.
what's all this about 'an artifact
of another usage culture'?!? I would submit that _anything_ measured in

Heh-heh. Yes, there are many usage cultures. English v. metric.
Business correspondence v. photo prints.

Years ago I taught school. Taught kids metric AND english measurements.
Quietly. I thought it useful to be able to use both. Others are more strident/partisan.

Further thought:

Just as other common paper sizes have associated names
that describe their primary purpose -- 'letter' for the 8.5 x 11
used for written correspondence, 'legal' for the 8.5 x 14 used
in lawyerly work -- 8.5 x13 should have a name.

I nominate 'photosheet'. As in 'Please bring me another
13 packs of Epson photosheet-size ColorLife paper."

...and hopefully they will rename it for the mexican market...

What's wrong with using Hammermill Color Copy ???

Code Size Grain Basis Wt Wt/M

102475 8.5 X 14 L 28 18 4,000 30
http://www.ippaper.com/hammermill_color_copy_paper.html

103291 8.5 X 14 L 20 13 5,000 30

Every paper mill in the world would have to completely retool in order to
accpmodate your wishes. Either that or in a much more likely scenario there
would be substantial waste when trimming standard paper sizes to your custom
size. Either way, the end cost to you would be considerable.

Would you print the four 4x6 prints touching on the inside edges, or have a
small border around each print on the sheet?
Would you cut out the four prints, or leave them on the 8.5" x 13" paper?
I'm trying to understand your idea.

Stan - I believe that 8.5 X 13 already has a name. In England they
call that a foolscap size.

Hello J.A.
What's wrong with using Hammermill Color Copy ???

Lovely paper for a color laser.

But I'm printing from Epson photo printers. So I like to
use the Epson papers with Epson inks for maximum
print longevity and color fidelity.

Hello Colon

Yow. Radical thought.

Somehow, call me crazy, I'm thinking that if Epson can produce/obtain 13" x
19"
paper they can produce 8.5" x 13" paper without a need to retool
every paper mill in the world.

Yep, I'm dreaming, I know it, but the idea just makes
too much sense for it to leave my mind alone.
