Two miles is typically the limit for the most economical (slowest) service.

As I pointed out earlier, that is *not* correct. Two points:

1. It was *faster* service that couldn't be provided at greater
distances.

2. The technology changed several years ago, with the introduction of
the device called a "stinger," and they can now provide service at all
(or most) speeds at greater differences.

Faster service can work farther but I don't know the details.

That makes sense, but in the past, I was told that we reside too far to get
the most ecnomical rate but we could get a faster speed. That has changed;
see below.

Can you find anything that says that? I searched for DSL stingers and I only
found articles from a few years ago (relatively old) that says nothing about
extending the distance. Also, I checked with Verizon just now, and the say
that "Verizon High Speed Internet is not yet available" in my area. This is
a well populated area with plenty of expensive homes. Since High Speed
Internet is not yet available in this area it is likely not available in
many other areas. Perhaps the main reason it is not yet available in this
area is because they can't compete with cable in this area.

Sorry, I can't address what you were told, but the reality is as I
described it.

I haven't looked, but I don't need to. As I explained earlier, what I
said was from my own experience. DSL at any speed wasn't available to
me because we were too far away. Several years ago, they installed a
stinger just down the block, and that made it available. I had it here
for several years, until this summer, when I switched to cable.

Verizon has a high-speed internet service called FiOS (fiber-based,
and different from DSL). It's available in some areas, but not all of
the areas they service. When they told you that "Verizon High Speed
Internet is not yet available" they may have meant FiOS. If that's
what they meant, and it's not available, it's likely because the fiber
circuits aren't in place.

Verizon is not my local phone company, and I don't know what other
services they offer. If they also offer DSL, it may be only in some
markets. I don't know, nor can I comment on why they offer what they
do or why they price it as they do.
