CD-ROM means Compact Disc - Read Only Memory

CD-R means Compact Disc - Recordable

If you go out and get a "CD Burner" then Microsoft Windows - in
most cases - will properly recognize it and already has the
software that enables you to burn files to it. But these
machines usually are sold with drivers and software that
provide a full suite of capabilities including disc copying
etc. etc., which you probably will want to install.

If you do go out and get a "CD-Burner" don't waste your time
with just CD .. get a "DVD burner" which are usually backward
compatible with CD-ROM/R/RW discs .. plus are capable of
handling the various DVD media .. ask the retailer. Now there
are DVD burners that can also do labelling as well , a
technology called "LightScribe", you may want that feature.

Ok i have the CD-ROM drive so that means i cannot write songs
to a blank cd am i correct? Underneath the CD-ROM drive its
looks the same as the CD-ROM drive but doesnt do anything its
not labeled or anything its just there it doesn't open or
close. So with just a CD-ROM drive i can't write songs to a
blank cd?

No. A CD-ROM [ROM == READ ONLY Memory] drive will only read,
not write. "Burning" means writing files or images to a recorable
disc. A CD-ROM drive will only do "playback" and does not do any
creation. For to create CDs, to write to them and "burn" them,
you need a CD-RW drive, or much better yet, a DVD-RW drive [ RW
== Read Write ].

When buying, notice that there is a wide range of devices and
prices. Here I have an LG Super Multi which - so far - works very
well and was had at reasonable cost. It was 'OEM', yet had a
package of software to go with it including Nero Express and a
DVD movie player. Be careful to get software. Windows will not
play DVD movies without 3rd party software etc. etc.

Also, when you buy the DVD-R and CD-R discs make sure to get
Maxell or Memorex [or the like] discs. Don't go for any company
that doesn't focus on recording media. Companies that do discs
"on the side" don't produce discs of the higher quality as
companies that do.

Where can i buy a CD-R or CD-RW? can i buy it at a local store or
anything

That I will leave to you. You can buy one at a local computer
store, or a bigger "office supply" or "electronics" store. You can
also order computer components from all kinds of places "online".

Shop around and get a good deal $$ and remember, even if you buy
"OEM" from your local computer shop, to get one that includes all
the software. I would recommend you get a DVD RW because so much is
done with DVD these days that CD-RW is a bit antiquated. Talk to a
few retailers and they should be able to set you up good. I use the
LG Super Multi www.lge.com but I'm pretty sure there are other
good makes and models you might look at as well.

Could i possibly download the software online like from microsoft or
from another website?

Some yes. There are some tricks even that you might pull to get free
DVD movie playback. But you will have to discover these for
yourself. ;)

Better would be to go to a reputable local computer shop that sells
DVD-RW units 'OEM' but that includes a software package which has,
say, NERO [for burning] and PowerDVD [for movies]. You should be
able to get the whole thing for a reasonable price.

I just found on a website and i found CD Creator v0.21 software that
is free of charge. If i would download that do u think i would beable
to burn songs to a cd then?

I doubt it. Sounds bogus to me. I could be wrong of course, but I don't
think so.

If you have the DVD burner installed you should be able to do so even
without CD Creator using Windows Media Player. But first you need the drive
that can do the burning, right? You can't burn anything without a burner,
eh?

I would wonder about downloading stuff like that "for free" anyway. I do not
think it is "kosher". You should be able to get the DVD RW drive bundled
with all the software you need already, and not have to worry about
downloading anything. But it's your call. If you think you are getting the
software from a reputable source ... but it doesn't sound quite right to me,
especially the version number - I think they are up to version 8 now.

My advice? Just go to a local reputable computer shop and buy a DVD RW "OEM"
at a reasonable price and make sure it comes bundled with burner software
and a DVD movie player - then you will be set.

i just found on another website this software to burn songs to a cd its

6 burns is 6 CDs, if you burn once per CD. Yes, there is such a thing as a
multi session burn where you burn a CD then go back later and in another
burn add more. I can't say if that would count as two.

I presume so, if that's what it says. We can't see your documentation from
here. Of course, until you have a CD burner (hardware) you can't burn any at
all.

Like I said: I can't say how many sessions count as a burn .. nor can I say
what the software will enable you to burn. You will have to check with them
for the specifics of their package. Sorry, I probably cannot help you
anymore now that you are exploring specific packages. For answers to those
types of questions, you should email the company concerned.

and software that provide a full suite of capabilities
including disc copying etc. etc., which you probably
will want to install.

If you do go out and get a "CD-Burner" don't waste your
time with just CD .. get a "DVD burner" which are usually
backward compatible with CD-ROM/R/RW discs .. plus are
capable of handling the various DVD media .. ask the
retailer. Now there are DVD burners that can also do
labelling as well , a technology called "LightScribe",
you may want that feature.

Ok i have the CD-ROM drive so that means i cannot write
songs to a blank cd am i correct? Underneath the CD-ROM
drive its looks the same as the CD-ROM drive but doesnt do
anything its not labeled or anything its just there it
doesn't open or close. So with just a CD-ROM drive i can't
write songs to a blank cd?

No. A CD-ROM [ROM == READ ONLY Memory] drive will only
read, not write. "Burning" means writing files or images to
a recorable disc. A CD-ROM drive will only do "playback"
and does not do any creation. For to create CDs, to write
to them and "burn" them, you need a CD-RW drive, or much
better yet, a DVD-RW drive [ RW == Read Write ].

When buying, notice that there is a wide range of devices
and prices. Here I have an LG Super Multi which - so far -
works very well and was had at reasonable cost. It was
'OEM', yet had a package of software to go with it
including Nero Express and a DVD movie player. Be careful
to get software. Windows will not play DVD movies without
3rd party software etc. etc.

Also, when you buy the DVD-R and CD-R discs make sure to
get Maxell or Memorex [or the like] discs. Don't go for any
company that doesn't focus on recording media. Companies
that do discs "on the side" don't produce discs of the
higher quality as companies that do.

Where can i buy a CD-R or CD-RW? can i buy it at a local
store or anything

That I will leave to you. You can buy one at a local computer
store, or a bigger "office supply" or "electronics" store.
You can also order computer components from all kinds of
places "online".

Shop around and get a good deal $$ and remember, even if you
buy "OEM" from your local computer shop, to get one that
includes all the software. I would recommend you get a DVD RW
because so much is done with DVD these days that CD-RW is a
bit antiquated. Talk to a few retailers and they should be
able to set you up good. I use the LG Super Multi
www.lge.com but I'm pretty sure there are other good makes
and models you might look at as well.

Could i possibly download the software online like from
microsoft or from another website?

Some yes. There are some tricks even that you might pull to get
free DVD movie playback. But you will have to discover these
for yourself. ;)

Better would be to go to a reputable local computer shop that
sells DVD-RW units 'OEM' but that includes a software package
which has, say, NERO [for burning] and PowerDVD [for movies].
You should be able to get the whole thing for a reasonable
price.

I just found on a website and i found CD Creator v0.21 software
that is free of charge. If i would download that do u think i
would beable to burn songs to a cd then?

I doubt it. Sounds bogus to me. I could be wrong of course, but I
don't think so.

If you have the DVD burner installed you should be able to do so
even without CD Creator using Windows Media Player. But first you
need the drive that can do the burning, right? You can't burn
anything without a burner, eh?

I would wonder about downloading stuff like that "for free"
anyway. I do not think it is "kosher". You should be able to get
the DVD RW drive bundled with all the software you need already,
and not have to worry about downloading anything. But it's your
call. If you think you are getting the software from a reputable
source ... but it doesn't sound quite right to me, especially the
version number - I think they are up to version 8 now.

My advice? Just go to a local reputable computer shop and buy a
DVD RW "OEM" at a reasonable price and make sure it comes bundled
with burner software and a DVD movie player - then you will be
set.

i just found on another website this software to burn songs to a
cd its called GEAR it will be a free 30 day trial. I was thinkin
about trying that tomorrow

Could i buy the CD Burner or CD-R software at a local a Wal-Mart?

I just downloaded Adensoft Audio Data CD Burner software so all i
gotta do is put in a blank CD and then burn the songs i want then im
set. I only have 6 burns to start does 6 burns mean i can burn 6
CD's?

6 burns is 6 CDs, if you burn once per CD. Yes, there is such a
thing as a multi session burn where you burn a CD then go back later
and in another burn add more. I can't say if that would count as two.

K have u's heard of Adensoft before or no? The one song that i check
to put into the burn place it says Not Supported File and idk what
that means its just that one song. My friend said that it might not
be a Wav or MP3 but i can listen to it i just wont beable to burn it.

I downloaded the Adensoft Audio CD Burner software into my computer but i
dont have a CD Burner so i could i still burn cds?

I presume so, if that's what it says. We can't see your documentation from
here. Of course, until you have a CD burner (hardware) you can't burn any at
all.
If i would buy a CD Burner at like a local Wal-Mart if they have it in stock
how would i hook it up to my tower? Or would it have to be put into the tower
in order for it to work?

Read the instructions and the product literature. If you aren't sure how to
do this, get someone to do it for you. I'm sorry, but it it doesn't seem
that you're really reading the myriad replies you are getting here. You need
to a) get a CD burner and b) install it. That's all.

Ok can it be diff from the my computer cause i have Windows XP and i have an
HP Pavilion can it be diff from that or must it be the same as the HP?

S

Shenan Stanley

It's this simple.

If you do not buy and install the hardware capable of doing what you want to
do - all the software in the worlkd will not help you.

Think of it like this. You have a loaf of bread (blank CDs). You want
toast (CDs with stuff written to them). Without some device that can make
toast (fire, oven, toaster, whatever)-(a CD writer device) - you will never
make toast (CDs with stuff written to them). You need to get a device (CD
writer) to make toast (CDs with stuff written to them) out of bread (blank
CDs). You can slather all the butter(software to organize stuff to be
written to CD) you want on the toast (CDs with stuff written to them) - but
it is still just buttered bread (the software to organize stuff and the
blank CDs) and unless you get the toaster (CD writer).

It doesn't matter. HP doesn't actually *make* CD-burners, anyway. Again, I
truly don't mean to sound rude, but if you are not sure what you're doing
here, get someone else to install this for you...take your computer to a
local computer shop/expert (ideally not CompUSA or similar) and pay them to
install a CD burner for you.

You've been repeatedly given all the information you could possibly need in
here, and this thread is really not going anywhere. Best of luck!

Yes. With that drive you can both read and burn CD-R discs and CD-RW discs.
As well you can read [only] DVD discs and CD-ROM discs. You can probably
also read music CDs [which means you can put a music CD you bought at the
music store into your new drive and play it back and listen to the music].

If you want to create your own music CD, you can use a CD-R disc and your
new burner drive to do that.

Read the websites I mentioned in my other reply to you. Reading those
websites should give you a good idea on how to create your music CDs using
your new burner and CD-R discs .. and so on.
