Does Vista come with this?

I get that kind of display action on my new MacPro. No Vista there yet
though. I have to get another program like Parallel's Desktop to run the XP
or Vista on that one.

Look at the 2 videos in entirety...I know Macs can do SOME but not all
that - Vista on the other hand can't do 10% of those.

For good reason. Microsoft actually test concepts they have to make sure
they work well in productive environments.

That doesn't, even a suttle wave effect when moving windows around is enough
to distract people and make people motion sick.

That is mandriva 2007 with XGL

I am running that as well as XP and Vista as a triple boot on my PC.

I also have 15 other OS on virtual machines...

This may surprise some dumb as*es that are distorting reality by saying
I do not have vista, just because I am telling the truth about how horrible
it is.
They see im posting from XP, therefore I don't have vista.. lol how stupid
can you be?
It doesn't pass through their small brains, that I might not like using
vista for too
long because IT STINKS???

Of course, if you don't like vista, with their logic you are either:

1) A troll
2) Ignorant of vista

Well they are the trolls and most certainly they are ignorant!

Yes, Vista has the underpinning graphics architecture capable of animating
Windows windows.

Vista will be able to do that with 3rd party software added...

in otherwords the display engine can do that, but they left almost
all the effects out of the GUI.

HOWEVER Linux with XGL can work on older cards....

Vista needs the new cards to be able to do it...

its a scam to get people to buy new hardware....

technologically it is possible to do many things with directX 8

I think it is some sort of deal between ATI NVIDIA and MS like this>>

MS forces people to upgrade if they want the effects (So ati and nvidia sell
more cards) and ATI-Nvidia does not release the code of their drivers for
open source OS like linux.

A nice little conspiracy..... to make sure everyone benifits but you!

No, MacPro can't do ALL of it,. but, a good bit. I like the animations, it
adds some fun to using it. I had hoped that we would see something similar
to the MacPro capabilities with Vista, but, I guess they ran out time. :-))

Awesome!

But can it be productive?

There seem to be three parameters to consider:
1 - is the idea good?
2 - does it have sufficient "purchaser" interest?
3 - is it well supported?

When all three, in my opinion, coalesce one is on to a winner until then
it is extremely interesting.

X11?

X...?

Hi

Great eye candy. I was impressed, and decided to know more about XGL. I
learned that Novell early this year impressed the public with translucent
and "sticky, waving" windows and a rotating 3D desktop.

Great as it is, unfortunately it depends on open-code drivers from GPU
companies like ATI and nVidia. The problem is that those companies have
already shown that they have no intention to sponsor fully open source
drivers, as this would expose trade secrets about their hardware. A light
glows for Intel, who said would be opening the code for their drivers... We
still have reverse engineering, but all that means that the thing will not
be optimized...

I guess in the end Microsoft will come with another version of DirectX which
addresses those functions, in a partnership with GPU giants...

I can live with that... <:^))

Oh *yawn* you're the first person in the world to compare XGL with Aero.
This hasn't been done to death in here before or anything. Bravo.

Longhorn, the early editions of Vista, was perfectly capable of doing that,
in fact was shown doing it in demos long before XGL was able to do it, but
this was taken out of recent versions due to the fact it's a load of useless
eyecandy that adds nothing to the user experience.

Give me a break Microsoft fan boy MVP. I work as a consultant for aGold
Partner for a living so I APPRECIATE Microsoft, but at least I can
appreciate better things that are non-Microsoft too! XGL technology is
Linux is WAYYY ahead and better than MS technology hands down - above all,
it does NOT require the 256 MB Graphics card - it runs fine on my older
machines.

Agreed! XGL is some cool stuff and works on old cards - that was the
selling point for me on this technology.

Alot of "hype" around Vista is graphics right...asides from security (which
they always tout - even before Vista) - but this BLOWS VISTA way out of the
water and the requirements is not 256 MB card.

I installed CentOS 4.4 on a laptop with 16 MB video card and it works
without lag! Aero won't even run on one of my desktop with 64 MB dedicated
video card!

Yeahh...yawn...no matter how technical these comparisons are, VISTA CAN'T do
IT! Hello - that was the point of the thread! DUUYYYYYYYY....

they took it out because, just like WinFS, and a bunch of other
technology...they couldn't make it work flawlessly in time! DUH!

Lastly, you are such a fanboy that you can't pick up some of those things as
useful -- please kiss ass...that's BS...I know ALOT of is eye candy but
there are some usefulness to the various features too....AWWWWW yawn 2 u...

they took it out because, just like WinFS, and a bunch of other
technology...they couldn't make it work flawlessly in time! DUH!

That is a major disappointment for me, at least. That makes Vista less
tasty if those were in and even at the cost of delay for another year,
maybe.

If that's the case, I will assume most sales than will not be relying on new
systems, as it is likely now, and will be lots of replacement sales as well.
